She’s a former legal analyst for Donald Trump and one of his staunchest allies who tried to prevent Joe Biden from becoming president, and now there’s a bit of good news:
She won’t be returning to her post on the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s Board of Advisors thanks to a massive public outcry, according to a statement by the advocacy group Free Speech for People on Wednesday, Raw Story reports.
That’s right: election-denier Cleta Mitchell’s seat is already empty and she won’t be coming back.
Not only do we have the advocacy group to thank, but we also can be grateful to Generation Vote, which also had a hand in ousting Mitchell. Both groups sent letters to the board illustrating their concerns.
We can be especially glad for this because according to the statement, Mitchell had the cray-cray notion that “no one in the American public has a constitutional right to vote for president.”
Pretty sad that someone who sat on a major agency that oversees elections in this country thinks this way. Does she not understand how the Constitution works?
In the statement the group notes:
“A special grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia unanimously recommended that mitchell be indicted for her role in conspiring with Trump and others to overturn the 2020 presidential election.”
Yup, Mitchell even went so far as to take part in the notorious phone call where Trump threatened Brad Raffensperger, Georgia’s Secretary of State. While she wasn’t indicted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, Trump, of course, was, along with a bunch of his legal advisers and cronies.
But things get even more fun from here.
Emails from 2022 show that Trump was doing everything in his power to ensure she would be named to the board even before the 2020 election. While the U.S. Election Assistance Commission doesn’t wield formal rulemaking power, it does perform several advisory tasks on elections. This includes maintaining the Voluntary Voting Systems Guidelines, and even deciding whether to recommend the certification or decertification of voting machines. The commission also serves as a clearinghouse for funding for a number of election programs in the states.
But I think one of the nastier aspects of this woman is that she likes to deride younger voters.
Seriously, who does Mitchell think she is? Her actions serve to alienate young voters against Trump, so who knows, maybe that’s a good thing.
But in a statement, Generation Vote director Brianna Cea rightly noted:
“While on the board, cleta mitchell has ridiculed young voters and recently called for efforts to curtail the youth vote after young people turned out in record numbers across the country. Time and again, mitchell proved that she does not have the best interest of all american voters and should not be in a position to advise our nation’s only federal election administration commission.”
This goes right along with her comment that “no one in the American public has a constitutional right to vote for president.”
Anyone who thinks like this does not belong in a public office. Period.

Well, if Americans do not have the constitutional right to vote, then her job was meaningless and perhaps she needs to pay back everything she took (notice, not “earned” because she and her job was meaningless) salary and benefit-wise. One doesn’t, or at least shouldn’t, receive a salary, etc. if there is not a job to do.
