Melania Trump may have overplayed her hand this time. Her announcement of a necklace she “designed” for Mother’s Day is getting raked over the coals. The Intelligencer comes right out and calls it “ugly” and her former aide and BFF, Stephanie Grisham, notes that timing the grift with the opening of Trump’s hush money trial is not only tasteless but absurd.

First of all, the design is a modified shamrock. This is nothing from Melania’s imagination, this is straight from Mother Nature’s. (Well, okay, Mother Nature’s is a bit more symmetrical, not weirdly spaced like this. What do you expect from a woman who rips out the Rose Garden and puts red Xmas trees in the halls?)

“Being a mother is one of the most important roles in life. For this Mother’s Day, I have designed the ‘Her Love & Gratitude’ necklace to express immense gratitude and honor all mothers,” she said in a statement, per The Hill.

There’s an air of mystery about this necklace that makes it feel more authentically Melania than other recent product releases, like her generic Christmas ornaments and patriotic NFT collection (though the necklace also comes with “a limited-edition digital collectible,” whatever that is). […]

And what is the pendant supposed to be? The description says it’s a flower, but what are the three heart-shaped petals supposed to symbolize? Mom and two kids? Mom, Dad, and Dad’s mistress? The three people who raised the giver as part of a polycule?

Outside of the clover shape and Melania’s signature on the back, a lot of the necklace’s design is left up to the buyer. The description says, “Each necklace can be engraved with names, initials, or significant dates to create a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry.” […]

So engraving LOVE&, and GRATITUDE on the front is just a suggestion. Any slogan — say WHAT’S SHE THINKING or LET’S GO BRANDON — is just fine as long as each word is under 12 characters. Melania really doesn’t care what you write provided that “U” hand over $245.

What happens with that money is unclear. When Melania released her “Yearning to Breathe Free” NFTs, her office said an unspecified “portion” of the proceeds would go toward Fostering the Future, a “Be Best initiative” that supports children in foster care. But the former First Lady’s website doesn’t say where the funds raised from necklace sales are going.

And that is where the tastelessness of it all comes from. At least before there was a pretense of noblesse oblige, of St. Melania raising funds for children, the helpless, the underprivileged, all that. Now even that fig leaf doesn’t exist, naked greed is right there in the open. Which is refreshing, actually. We know who you are, Melania, thank you for not bothering to pretend otherwise.

And Stephanie Grisham knows who she is. And let me be clear, I’m no defender of Stephanie Grisham. She was part of Trump world and screwed the American public over plenty by receiving a salary of $167,000 to be a White House press secretary and she never gave a single press conference. Grisham had an epiphany on January 6 when the riot was going on and she decided to turn coat. That was a profitable move for her to make. That said, I do agree with the points she makes regarding how tacky the optics of this are as Trump started trial concurrent with the release of Melania’s objet d’art.

As a final Bizarro World note, Melania’s signature is almost identical to her husband’s. Isn’t that just a touch strange?

Anybody here a bookie? I’d like somebody to tell me the odds of this. I think Melania is just like Donald, she’s a phony ass construction. Nothing about her is real.

  1. It’s kind of a knock-off of Jane Seymore’s line of jewelry except Seymore’s is not gold-plated shlock. I suppose that is what makes a trump woman-their ability to steal others’ fashion ideas, others’ music, etc. No f*cking originality in donny’s messed up family.

  2. My bet is that it is a replica of the participation trophy she received for learning to speak Irish fluently……

  3. Taking a look at the necklace, if you kind of squint while looking at it, there’s a kind of stylized angel (minus its head, of course)–the top two leaves/petals (closest to the chain) could be wings and the bottom could be the “skirt” (think of a Christmas tree angel–they’ve always got these big hoop skirt things so they’ll fit on the top of the tree; of course, most traditional paintings and pictures tend to show angels wearing that “traditional” Biblical garb resembling a toga or abaya or thawb).
