This will not go down well in Wingnuttia. I daresay Paul Gosar has just interrupted his lunch of swallowing frogs whole and has gone to call Ashli Babbitt’s mother and inform her of this set back. As you may recall, Gosar had Babbitt’s mother speak at Trump’s Arizona rally, and Trump has himself spoken in glowing terms of what a “wonderful woman”  and “patriot” Babbitt was.

Let’s take a little look see, shall we, at this heroine.

Here’s her mother on the phone at a rally, ginning up the crowd. Go to 2:08 and hear how Ashli was having such a great time with her life, breaking and entering government property and those “sons of bitches” did her in. Imagine that, if a cop tells you to stop advancing in a mob scene and you ignore him/her, you’ll get shot. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

Are you getting a deja vu? Maybe you’re thinking of this.

Ashli Babbitt is to MAGA what Horst Wessel was to the Nazis. Joseph Goebbels decided that Wessel could be of value to the cause as a martyr, so after the brownshirt was murdered by communists in a Berlin ghetto, he became far larger in death than he ever was in life. A song was written about him and it was played at Nazi rallies along with Deutschland Uber Alles.

I’m surprised Kid Rock hasn’t already penned some lyrics and a tune for Ashli Babbitt. But be patient, it may yet occur.

Here’s the simple wrap up of this matter from the Capitol Police, but I’m sure the matter is far from wrapped up propaganda wise. Unless I miss my guess, this is going to be a source of righteous indignation for some time to come.

NBC News:

The officer, whose name has not been released, opened fire on Babbitt as she and a mob of other Trump supporters tried to forcefully enter the Capitol.

Video of the shooting showed Babbitt in front of a crowd of rioters trying to get through a door leading to where members of Congress were being evacuated on the House side of the building.

The Justice Department announced in April that no charges were being brought against the officer. The exoneration by the Capitol Police wraps up the last remaining investigation into the incident.

A memo from the commander of the Capitol Police’s Office of Personal Responsibility says “no further action will be taken in this matter” after the officer was exonerated for use of force.

Let’s see what Trump says about this at his MAGA Woodstock rally in the cow pasture in Alabama tonight. Last I knew, Hurricane Fred hadn’t turned it into a mosh pit so I guess it’s still happening. And Mo Brooks will assuredly be there. Maybe he’ll tell everybody what a great guy the North Carolina truck bomber was, while Trump crows about Babbitt. Stay tuned.

  1. Your comment about a song gave me a flashback to my time working in conservation and my almost becoming a federal game warden. That’s a long story, but what I was reminded of is a rant a legendary Federal Game Warden once went on about Claude Dallas, a murderous “ain’t no gubmint guys gonna get ME! type who murdered two Idaho state game wardens in cold blood. He only got thirty years and only served 22 (time off for “good behavior) even though he escaped from prison and it took ANOTHER lengthy manhunt (the first one was something like fifteen months) to recapture him.

This of course was fucking Idaho, and both there and in surrounding areas Dallas had plenty of supporters. Some country fuckwad songwriter wrote the Ballad of Claude Dallas, which included the repeated lament “for killing them two game officers, Claude Dallas got thirty years” and it WAS intended as a lament! He is still a folk “hero” to many in those parts and when that sumbitch finally dies (he’s early 70s by now) HE will get way bigger funerals/memorials than the two cops he MURDERED. Of course, when it comes to “back the blue” these assholes most decidedly do NOT include game wardens who tend to have green, tan or grey uniforms. Never have.

Now that I think about it I’m kind of surprised some ass-hat (as in MAGA hat wearer) hasn’t already written a Ballad of Ashli Babbett but I’m sure it’s coming.

  2. The crowd behind her saw the guns and was yelling to get back. She should have heard them and backed off. Her death is her own fault.

  3. Actually the ‘Horst Wessel Lied’ ( ‘Die Fahne Hoch’) was called that, not becaiuse it was about Horst Wessel but because he wrote it.

Interesting background – he was a pimp, living with his girl and wasn’t paying his rent and his landlady got in touch with the local communists who came round to ‘sort him out’ and he ended up being shot.

  4. “Imagine that, if a cop tells you to stop advancing in a mob scene and you ignore him/her, you’ll get shot.”

How many times in the past several years have we heard WHITE TALKING HEADS (almost exclusively of the Qonservative/Republikkkan variety) saying something very similar about Black men being shot for “ignoring” what cops tell them?

Oh. That’s right. The crowd in DC were white people who think they’re above the law (much like their idol, Donald Trump).

  5. It’s just too bad she was the only one. I saw a lot of people doing stuff that day that deserved shooting, since there wasn’t any other way to stop them.
