Reuters is reporting that May will be an illuminating month from the January 6 Committee.
“This was a coup organized by the president against the vice president and against the Congress in order to overturn the 2020 presidential election,” Raskin said in an interview with Reuters, National Public Radio and The Guardian newspaper, when asked what he has learned so far from the committee’s probe.
U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson, who chairs the special House of Representatives committee organized by Democrats to look into events leading up to the Jan. 6 assault, has told reporters he expects public hearings to resume in May.
“We’re going to tell the whole story of everything that happened. There was a violent insurrection and an attempted coup and we were saved by (then-Vice President) Mike Pence’s refusal to go along with that plan,” said Raskin, a member of the House special committee. […]
Raskin said the hearings will lay out for the public the steps the former president and his associates took to try to stay in power despite a clear-cut defeat.
Had the rioters succeeded in preventing the certification, Raskin said, Trump “was prepared to seize the presidency” and likely declare martial law.
He said the committee had yet to decide whether to try to seek testimony from Trump or Pence. Every four years, the vice president is charged with overseeing the formal count in Congress of presidential elections.
Pence rejected pleas to set aside the November 2020 result, which would have paved the way for the House of Representatives to in effect conduct a second election, with Republicans holding an advantage that could have installed Trump for a second term.
These revelations should be interesting. I’m sure you have gone over in your mind what could have happened if Pence had decided to go along with the coup. We will never know what might have occurred. The coup might have been successful, or perhaps someone in the military would have heroically stood up and defended the republic from takeover. We can game scenarios until our heart’s content. I think the only thing that we can all agree upon is that as bad as January 6 was, an actual coup would have been simply horrible. And we came that close.
Forget testimony from the former guy. His rallies and interviews, with all that videos, and the speeches while he was still in office, pretty much cover it.
To say nothing of the paper trail he and his left everywhere and which the committee and/or DOJ has nearly all of now.
So, plan A was to have Mike Pence thwart the electoral process. And plan B ( the mob, hanging of Pence and Pelosi, and martial law) were the backup in case Pence didn’t go along with plan A. Apparently, Pence and Pelosi both escaped to secure areas in time, no democrats joined the fray, and so the military expressed unwillingness to go along with the martial law part of plan B. That’s what saved us, I think. Without actual fighting involving Democrats, and with the military unwilling to implement martial law, Trump was clearly the bad guy and was forced to call off his goons.
As for Pence, I find it really puzzling that he thinks he might still have a political future. Is he totally dense? I guess so!
We owe a debt to the leftist activists who were warned ahead of time and wisely stayed away. Without an opponent to fight, the J6 Jackoffs went looking for one…and blundered their way into the federales’ waiting arms (and warrants).

Would that it were so simple. Unfortunately, constitutional amendments are devilishly difficult to pass, and that is what it would take.
