Huckabee Sanders Accused Of Violation Of Hatch Act, She’s Not The First In Trumpworld

People in government are, generally, well aware of all the rules of government, and abide by them. However, since we now have a crew of amateurs at the helm in the White House, it’s not surprising that not only does gaffe after gaffe occur in the West Wing, but actual violations of law do as well. The Hatch Act clearly states that federal employees are barred from using their offices, work resources and social media accounts for political purposes. The Office of Special Counsel, to whom violations of the act are reported, already clarified in March that promoting Trump’s “MAGA” campaign was a clear violation, but that did not deter Sarah Huckabee Sanders from using Twitter to disseminate a photo of herself with Kanye West, sporting a MAGA hat. Violations of the Hatch Act carry a fine of $1,000 and disciplinary actions like suspension or termination. But not to worry, violations in the Trump White House are quite common and everybody’s still there. Sanders is one of 10 White House staffers included in a CREW [Citizens For Responsibility and Ethics In Washington] complaint from August. Violation of the Hatch Act is a feature, not a bug, with this motley crew.

An investigation from the special counsel in March found that White House counselor Kellyanne Conway violated the Hatch Act on two separate occasions, once after using her official position to promote products from the president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump.

First lady Melania Trump’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, was accused by CREW of violating the federal act by using #MAGA on her official Twitter account.

Meanwhile, outgoing U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley was found to have violated the act by retweeting an endorsement from Trump last October.

Dan Scavino, the White House social media director, was also found to have violated the act last year after CREW filed a complaint accusing him of encouraging potential GOP challengers to oust Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) in an upcoming primary.

They’re on notice but still they flout the rules time and again. Time to vote these bums out. All of them.
