The GOP is breaking down. It’s falling to its knees like a sick cow in the pasture. I would say, “Could somebody put it out of its misery, the poor thing?” But the only way to do that would be for the kind farmer (read: GOP leaders) to realize the animal is sick in the first place — and there are no GOP leaders, that’s the point. The other alternative is that the voters euthanize the sick beast and we fully intend to do that in November.

What a shitshow. Say it with me now, class, all together: WHAT A SHITSHOW! Would you believe that we’re going to see THREE GOP primary “performances?” I put it in quotes because two of the four remaining candidates will be running their own show, while the other two insult each other and not the front runner. The only candidate behaving normally is Chris Christie. He’s out.

Here’s how this stacks up: Christie and Ramaswamy did not meet the threshold of at least 10% in three separate national and/or Iowa polls of Republican caucusgoers or primary voters. So Christie bailed, whereas Ramaswamy lashed out, criticizing CNN, and said he was going to go on Tim Pool’s show that night.

Only Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley will appear at the January 10 final debate in Iowa and they will attack each other rather than the front runner. The front runner will be on Fox News showboating. Haley seems to think that Trump can be shamed. Who is putting what drug in her morning coffee? Or, she’s just naturally delusional?

I call your attention to this last tweet. “Sitting incumbents?” Trump is now the sitting incumbent? But it’s the other sentence I truly love. “You can only serve two terms if they are consecutive.” Whoa, Nellie. You see what this guy has been listening to. Trump, God forbid he would get back in the White House, has no plans to leave it. And we knew that, but it’s interesting to see it confirmed. I just love this fantasyland configuration of the Constitution, but that’s a feature, not a bug, of living in Trump world.

This is where we are on the second of January. The GOP candidates are splintered and flailing. Ramaswamy is going to do what he’s intended to do from the beginning, which is to become a right-wing media star, Trump is going to do Trump, and Haley and DeSantis will eviscerate each other. There is no semblance of anything normal going on here. All that’s happening is another Bizarro World reality TV episode — and the GOP deserves being in this spot right now. This is what they signed up for when they put the game show host at the top of their ticket in 2016. Lindsey Graham was right, they’re destroying themselves and they deserve it.

  1. I guess I better score a tab of acid or some shrooms. That way I can always tell myself…hey what do you expect??? YOU’RE ON DRUGS!!! THIS CAN’T POSSIBLY BE REAL. It worked in the 70s so should still be good.

  2. That “Three Year Letterman” (I’m guessing he left out “Old Brain” between “Year” and “Letterman”) hasn’t actually read the 22nd Amendment as it’s written. If he had, he would realize that there is NO provision for “consecutive terms” to be an exception. It says “No person shall be elected . . . more than twice.” That’s it. Right off the bat.
I’d also remind this moron that the Constitution had no original “term limits” for the President but REPUBLICANS were incensed when FDR chose to run for (and then had the audacity to win) a third term in 1940–and no other President had attempted to hold the office for more than two terms because they were “honoring” the precedent set by George Washington, the first President of the United States under the Constitution. (It was actually a good decision on Washington’s part as he would die a little over 2 years after leaving office.)
The only provision that was made for more than 8 years in total was to recognize the fact that someone might ascend to the Presidency as the result of the death or disability of the current President (note this would be further detailed with the 25th Amendment) and serve out that remaining time. BUT this also came with a caveat: If that remaining time was more than 2 years–even by one single day–the person would be ineligible to run more than once on their own (Truman was the sitting President when the Amendment went into effect and this provision exempted ANYONE from the two-term, 10-year limit; in theory, Truman could’ve run for, and served as, President right up until he died). If the remaining time was less than 2 years–even by one single day–the person could run two times on their own but no more.
