If you read the earlier post about the America First rally being bounced from Orange County to Riverside County and then back to Orange County again, you saw that the situation was volatile to say the very least. Orange County, California may have been home to the John Birch society but it wants nothing to do with the likes of Matt Gaetz or Marjorie Taylor Greene. The City of Anaheim pulled the plug on tonight’s planned America First rally, mere hours before it began. Looks like you’ll have to refund those ticket prices, Matt and Marge. Too bad. Daily Beast:

In what seemed like a last-minute reprieve for those who RSVPed for the free event (“VIP” tickets, which include photo opps with Gaetz and Taylor Greene, cost $250), the M3 Live Anaheim Event Center stepped in on Saturday morning.

But it seemed that a countdown to a third cancellation was inevitable after Mike Lyster, spokesperson for the city of Anaheim, released a statement Saturday morning condemning the plans.

“We learned of the planned relocation of this event to a private venue in our city late Friday. It is not a decision by or supported by the city of Anaheim,” the statement said. “As a city we respect free speech but also have a duty to call out speech that does not reflect our city and its values. We are looking into this matter this morning.”

And of course Matt Gaetz is all upset.

Give Kevin McCarthy a call. Maybe he can get you into an In-N-Out Burger parking lot in Bakersfield. Or try Death Valley. It’s only 120 today. It was hotter last week, you’re in luck. It’ll get done to a crisp 97 by 5:30 a.m. You’ll love it. I live in the Mojave, I know.

  1. The fact that they went for a small private venue rather than one of the larger public ones says they were (a) desperate for a location and (b) not getting ticket sales.
Maybe they should have tried a megachurch instead.
