Interesting the context in which Josh Hawley’s name comes up these days. When he’s not debuting his reality TV podcast with wifey, espousing Christian values and telling us how to live better lives, he’s making headlines for receiving illegal in-kind campaign contributions from the National Rifle Association. And he’s not alone. Oh my heavens, no. He’s accompanied by Ron Johnson, Tom Cotton, Matt Rosendale, Thom Tillis and of course Donald Trump’s name is in this story as well, although at this time only Hawley and Rosendale are named defendants. Florida Phoenix via Raw Story:

The Giffords gun safety organization has sued the National Rifle Association and the campaigns of U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley and U.S. Rep. Matt Rosendale of Montana, alleging group used shell corporations to improperly aid the Republican lawmakers in 2018.

The suit alleges two NRA affiliates made up to $35 million in illegal campaign contributions — in the form of coordinated communications efforts — to the GOP Senate campaigns of Hawley, Rosendale, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Cory Gardner of Colorado and Tom Cotton of Arkansas, as well as Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

It was filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia this week.

The NRA Political Victory Fund, a political action committee, and the NRA Institute for Legislative Action spent millions on supposedly independent political advertising for the six Senate candidates and Trump in the 2014, 2016 and 2018 federal election cycles, according to the suit.

Simply, outside groups can spend unlimited amounts on advocating for certain political candidates but coordinating with campaigns is prohibited. Once there is coordination, then it becomes an in-kind contribution and subject to federal election law reporting standards. Here, the suit accuses the NRA and the campaigns of the named defendants of using the same political messaging firms to disguise coordinated campaign activity and present it as independent advertising. Just what you would expect from Mr. Morality Josh Hawley and the others named.

  1. Is this the same dirty money that the NRA laundered for their pal and supporter Vlad Putin? I would not be surprised that Russia was involved in this.

  2. A podcast espousing x-tian values? Are those values the ones in the n.t. quoting jebus or are those the modern (i.e. evang) x-tian values?

I’m not x-tian, have no wish to be and will not become one. That said some of what jebus is said to have stated are very nice goals to have if you wish to be a contributing citizen of any society. I notice con x-tians try as much as humanly possible to keep themselves from getting anywhere near those goals. Ghandi is said to have stated “I admire Jesus. Christians however scare me” (or something to that effect)-whoever wrote some of the passages containing the supposed statements of jebus did write some admirable stuff. Pity con x-tians quite obviously think those statements are the work of their satan.
