Of all of the people in public life nowadays the person most deserving of our sympathy is surely Anthony Fauci. The good man has been a doctor and public servant for over 50 years. He never sought the spotlight. It just came glaring into his life when a global pandemic occurred on his watch, during the sheer incompetence of the Trump administration.
The pandemic was botched from minute one and Dr. Fauci became the fall guy. That continues into the current administration, because COVID is big right-wing business. It is a money maker. Denying its existence and making up all manner of fantasies about it is filling the coffers of the extremist and the fanatical.
And here on a Saturday night, doing exactly that, filling his coffers by spewing disinformation into the air, is none other than Donald Trump, Jr.

“Never the best” he just got all the honors somehow.
People who live long lives see many strange things come to pass. I’m certain Dr. Fauci never thought in his wildest dreams that he would be cast in the role of villain by the most perverse and incompetent group of people ever to get anywhere near the levers of power in the federal government, but that is what has come to pass.
It would be comical, the stuff of SNL sketches (where it has been portrayed, already) if not for the fact that Dr. Fauci has had to hire armed guards to protect him from right-wing lunatics. That’s the tragedy. That there are actually people who listen to Junior, Alex Jones, Roger Stone, whomever, and act out.
That said, there does appear to be some interesting karma in the world. Here is a woman who declares to Donald Trump that she’s no longer able to support him because of his stance on vaccination. Oops.

You can’t have it both ways, Junior. You can’t have all the braggadocio about Project Warp Speed and all the vaccines that Trump developed all at once, and have the right-wing anti-vaxx crusade bringing in to the bucks, too. It’s going to blow up and maybe this is a little foreshock warning of a big seismic MAGA event to come.
They can have it both ways. Hitler did have it both ways for 20 whole years. From the start of his insane movement he told the conservatives what they wanted to hear and he told the socialist leaning workers and farmers what they wanted to hear. If you’re waiting for Trump and his ilk to break apart under the weight of their lies you’re wasting your time and giving him another win and it’s America that’s going to have to pay for it.
You DO remember how it ended for Hitler, right? Epic Rap Battles Of History put it best: “You wrote a little book,/Got ’em fired up…When your bunker started gettin’ fired up,/You put a gun in your mouth and fired up.” Kind of makes those 20 years a waste of everybody’s time.
Well, except for the millions of dead Jewish people. I have a feeling that was not time wasted to those people.
Just ONCE, I would like some acknowledgement that more than JUST Jews went into the camps, the ovens, the showers and firing squads. You know who the second-biggest group to go through all that was? The Slavs AKA Russians, who were to be just AS exterminated to make “living space” for Germans. And that’s not even getting into the Rom and folks with severe mental health issues (Dr. Asperger, for whom the syndrome was named, infamously fed a lot of his patients into the concentration camp death machine).
And, as I said, it was all a waste of time. Germany spent most of the 20th Century cut in two, the Russians became one of the world’s two superpowers for the same length of time and Hitler remains dead. The nasty racism lives on but that preceded the Nazis anyway.
70 million people dead & neonazis now murdering people without consequences doesn’t add up to victory. Ur optimism is unfounded. At this moment there is no guarantee the fascists don’t steal the congress in 2022, & the presidency in 2024. If that happens, Hitler & fascism wins. What’s ur strategy then? Start believing it. This war is far far far from over.
Conversely, your pessimism reads like a trauma victim who refuses to get the help they need. I want guarantees, I’ll go to a cemetery. Meantime, there’s nothing else to do but fight on. So the bad guys won a few rounds…big effing deal. You only lose when you quit. Otherwise, the struggle is eternal, no matter what BS you or I soaked up in school saying otherwise.
I think about the history of the folks these goons loathe: women’s movements of various stripes, abolitionist movements that would eventually morph into the civil rights movement, the LGBTQ crowd that is just NOW getting mainstream legitimacy. They faced odds and opposition that made the Trump era look like an easy skirmish. If THEY can keep going, so can I. Teri Kanefield called it: your stance is a gateway straight to nihilism. And NOBODY needs certainty that damn bad.
Never said it was certain. That’s my point. I’ll save my celebrating when the war is won, even short term, as in the next two elections. It’s not nihilism to recognize the fight is not over. It’s a call to arms.

For my money, Fauci is the bravest, toughest public servant we’ve got right now. They threaten but he keeps trucking.
I wouldn’t care if Dr. Fauci looked like a baboon’s behind, and he doesn’t, his mind is a great one and that is all that matters. Of course expecting donnie dimwit jr. to understand such a thing is asking a bit much.
Neener neener. Jr. acts/sounds like an emotionally and intellectually constipated 8th grader. How that ferret-faced, greaseball wiener gets off saying anyone else isn’t good-looking ‘enough’ is astounding to me. Has he looked in a mirror lately? Check out those glassy, blood-shot eyes and that gawd awful beard. Worse, listen to the bile that spews from his mouth. Pretty is as pretty does, which makes Jr. one ugly toad. Meanwhile, Dr. Fauci, with his focus on science and public service is a prince among men. I hope he gets a Nobel for his service.
