It’s good to know that the Democrats are on top of this, because after the 2020 Census information was partially released, it was immediately evident that something like this was needed. Democracy Docket;

The U.S. Census Bureau released their new census data today—reflecting the demographic and population shifts that have occurred across our country over the last ten years. Thanks to these shifts, the current district maps in Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Louisiana are out of date, and unconstitutionally malapportioned in ways that limit voters’ fair representation in their government.

Today, voters in these three states sued, asking the courts for a few key forms of relief:

  • Permanently stop the use of out-of-date, malapportioned maps and ensure they cannot be used in any future elections
  • Enact new maps, fairly and constitutionally distributed according to the one-person one-vote principle, in time for the 2022 elections.

Nothing like getting on top of a problem early on. It’s no new information that Republicans fear free and fair elections.

  1. I guess we’ll see what happens but didn’t the S.C. say drawing election maps favoring a political party was fine by them or at least they weren’t going to stop it. Perhaps in MN and PA things will change but I can’t see much changing in Louisiana.
