Usually the Old Year is depicted as an old man and the New Year as a baby. If I had any gifts as a political cartoonist I would depict 2022 as some screaming teenager, or as a middle aged Karen, who has to be hauled out of a store, as so many of them were. 2021 started off with an event never before seen in history, the insurrection at the nation’s capitol. That pretty much set the tone and one year later the January 6 committee leads the news cycle with regularity as the most important story of this year — and arguably one of the most important in America’s history.

On a personal note, this year has been the most challenging in the history of this blog and has caused me sleepless nights. As you read this, look at the landing page of this site. There are two versions of this site out in the world. One has four extra stories. Two of the stories involve the fracas with our former sister site Daily Sound and Fury and Daily Kos. That’s Murfster’s “We Have A Plagiarist In Our Midst” article. My “Blog Wars” article is another and there are two of Murfster’s news pieces that don’t appear in the version that I have on my screen.

Let me tell you why this is relevant. I went into a screaming meltdown last night. Denis, our faithful moderator, and I were discussing the two plagiarism pieces in an email. He told me that he had seen them earlier but that they were no longer visible. My immediate thought was that somehow we had been hacked by Daily Sound and Fury and I went bonkers.

I called Murfster and screamed and raved. Long story short, he told me that I was crazy, the two pieces were right there. I looked on the screen. I refreshed the screen. There were not there. So we debated that for a few minutes, trying to figure out WTF could possibly be happening.

It occurred to me that the issue must be some quirk in the propagation of this site. We have been forced to change hosting providers this year, for reasons that regular readers here know all too well. We have had many crashes. So Wednesday I began the site migration. I was told it could take 24-48 hours to complete. Evidently, this two front pages phenomenon is part of that process. This was never explained to me and all this is new.

I share the story with you here, because the travails of this blog began exactly one year ago. Daily Sound and Fury was sold, the two sites separated, and a lot of adjustments needed to be made. We are literally ending the year the way it began, with confusion and chaos. And our internal confusion and chaos reflects the same confusion and chaos that we write about here, the politics of Washington, D.C., individual states and the world.

So, without further ado, let’s look at some images from 2021. What follows here, are videos which encapsulate the mad times in which we live. And make no mistake, this is a mad, mad world. Last night when I was watching video on the brushfires in Colorado, in the same area I grew up, the Denver/Boulder area, I was horrified to learn that it has not snowed this winter. This was news to me and I couldn’t even wrap my head around it, it was so inconceivable. But there it was, a story in the Washington Post saying that it has not snowed in Denver since April.

When I was growing up, the first snowfall was in September. Period. End of discussion. But we live in a world where climate denial runs rampant, as does COVID denial, as does denial of who won the 2020 election, etc., ad infinitum. You read these stories, so you know.

Here are some of the nutty images of 2021.

More nuttiness.

Oz is going down in flames. More on that later today.

Griffin I actually like. He’s making sense. The awakening MAGA mind, always an interesting thing to behold.

What would this year have been without the four ghouls, right?

There are Deep State plots and there are Deep State plots. I think the salad dressing mission was one of the most devious plots ever devised. I commend them.

That is Part I. Part II coming up later. We don’t want to inundate you all at once with this madness, your nervous system might not take it.
