Comer Tries Again To “Get Hunter Biden” You Know the Result

Well, Inspector Javert aka House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer brought in another witness. This one he was sure would finally give him the goods he so fervently believes are there to be gotten on Hunter Biden. And by extension Hunter’s dad, President Joe Biden. Trump’s demands notwithstanding even Comer is a little scared of sending Articles of Impeachment to the full House without… You know… Actual evidence of wrongdoing. So Comer hauled in an art dealer who handles Hunter Biden’s work for a grilling, and would up with a big ole pot of nothing.

Raw Story reports how Republicans have made accusations Hunter nefariously wanted to know who was buying his artwork and that this art guy would expose a huge corruption scheme that would take down father and son Biden. Alas, their “this is the guy with the goods” bigly witness didn’t back up their (the GOPer’s) claims:

Republican Oversight Committee chairman Rep. James Comer (KY) interviewed more witnesses for the Joe Biden impeachment inquiry — and transcripts reveal they still haven’t been able to find anything conclusive.

A transcript posted by the White House’s spokesman for Oversight and Investigations Ian Sams showed that art dealer George Bergès spoke to the committee, but he claimed he got nothing political or influential for selling Hunter Biden’s artwork.

I have to be honest. My first reaction was wondering who in Comer’s office or on the committee staff messed up and let an actual transcript of them coming up (AGAIN!) empty out. Especially so quickly. Could it be there are some committee members who are tired of looking like fools (thanks to Comer and his sidekick Gym Jordan) and don’t want to play the game of weeks of selective leaking, getting hammered by Democrats for lying and eventually the Democrats being proved to be the ones telling the truth?  Hey, it’s a crazy world, especially when it comes to goings on on Capitol Hill even in normal times. And these sure as hell ain’t normal times.

Still, we have a desperate Committee Chair with a fellow member who also chairs a powerful committee and they keep talking up big “scores” only to if they dare to have a hearing have their own freaking witnesses shoot them down. Or depose witnesses behind closed doors and don’t wind up with any actual evidence of wrongdoing. In this case we have the President’s son who apparently is a good enough artist that some of his pieces actually sell. I’ve never seen one and hell, I’m no expert on paintings. Some I like and some, even some famous ones like the Mona Lisa I don’t. Whatever.

The issue is that GOPers got all hot and bothered and promoted a notion that Hunter Biden wanted to know just who was buying his artwork, the implication being that he was keeping track of who bought what and for how much so he could track the “vast sums” being “laundered” or funneled to his dad.  So they suggested impropriety BUT the witness didn’t back them up:

He went on to tell the committee he was “surprised” to see a report in 2021 saying that staff at the White House helped “craft an agreement” creating a kind of “firewall” between Biden and art buyers.

Jenn Psaki, WH Press Secretary at the time told reporters they worked out a “system” with “reasonable safeguards to ensure “He will not know, we will not know, who purchases his art.”  Sounds to me like just what should have been done. Oh, but Comer and his pals had other “concerns” to be sure. They were certain there were all kinds of contacts between the President and Berges, and of course they talked about nefarious deeds. The problem as I’m sure you already guess is that again their witness (Berges) shot them down.

Bergès said that he attended an event where he exchanged pleasantries with the president.

THIS is what Comer and his cronies have been reduced to. Last week there was the belly flop into the mud with longtime Biden friend Kevin Morris. Morris is a rich guy who gave his pal Hunter a large loan to get by without worries while putting his life back together after rehab. Comer made all kinds of wild accusations about improprieties, that it was a “gift” with “no expectation of repayment” and of course that a chunk of it was to go to the President for who the hell knows what favor(s). Except that too turned out to be bullshit. From the linked article:

Last week, it was reported that a friend of Hunter Biden’s, who loaned him about $5 million, also testified before House investigators. According to that friend, Hollywood lawyer Kevin Morris, he was never on the receiving end of any political quid pro quo.

Morris told the House Oversight and Reform Committee that the money was given to help a newly sober friend he thought of as a “brother,” the Messenger reported.

“Kevin Morris’s massive financial support to Hunter Biden raises ethical and campaign finance concerns for President Joe Biden,” Comer said in a statement before the interview.

But when he testified to the committee, it became clear that the loan from Morris to Biden had heavy strings attached, was crafted by lawyers, and accrued interest payments.

Really, you’d think Comer would with attention turning to the primaries just quietly let his investigation peter out. Over and over he creates stupid fantasies about finally having the proverbial goods only to over and over have his ass handed to him. Now that I think about it, not even Jordan seemed to play up these two recent witnesses being called in for a grilling. When a rabid attack dog like Jordan is more or less taking a pass Comer really is doing the equivalent of setting his “family jewels” on the workbench and smashing them with a hammer!

One last thing. I’m not about to predict what Trump’s going to push for in the months ahead. The only reason the House finally did a formal vote for an impeachment inquiry is a petulant Trump wants Joe Biden impeached and tried in the Senate. At least once, so he can shout: “There! THERE!! BIDEN GOT IMPEACHED TOO!!!” Then go on rambling rants about how wrong it was for him to have been impeached and how corrupt everything is in DC when the Senate doesn’t convict Biden.

I say this because even if the DC Circuits dilly-dallying gives Trump what he craves by screwing the timeline of his DC trial up enough he skates until after the election he’s still going to have legal issues in the news. Criminal and civil matters, all while he’s going be the likely nominee and running against Biden.  There are signs, pretty good ones in fact that Trump will be running against not just “Uncle Joe”, but Dark Brandon and that would be a one-two combo/double barrel blast Trump won’t be able to handle. He might just forget about pushing the House to impeach and, believing he’ll win in November settle scores personally. We’ll see.

In any case, once again GOPers have come up empty looking a a “there” that simply isn’t there and never was. I swear, they are like the teens in some cheesy slasher movie who decide to hide out in the basement (with no windows) full of knives, hatchets/axes, chain saws etc. thinking THERE they will be safe. If not for the personal hell they keep putting Hunter Biden through I’d find their folly entertaining.  Then again, he’s decided to go on offense in recent months and he embarrassed them pretty badly by showing up on The Hill not once but twice offering to testify publicly. Maybe he’s thinking like me, and saying to himself “yeah, this will create political headaches for dad but it’s time I got to stick it to them. And I can even have some fun in the process!”

Anyway, there IS news beside the New Hampshire primary going on so I figure why not point out some of it.
