Hillary Clinton called Trump supporters “deplorables” but she didn’t finish the sentence. The rest of it is “children.” Donald Trump, who never grew up himself and even admits that “he’s the same person that he was in the first grade” appeals to the lowest common denominator in this country, people who also are not adults and who want to act out their frustration and violent impulses. Trump, as president, gave these people permission to act out. As Mitt Romney’s campaign manager, Stuart Stevens says, ““Trumpism takes that moment of road rage you feel when a car cuts you off and tells you that’s your best self.” Take a look at the clips of people acting out their best selves during the Capitol insurrection — and ironically, against the very people they profess to support, the cops.

And it all starts, not surprisingly, with Trump advocating violence from the get go.

Meanwhile, over at Fox News, you will hear David Schoen say that there is “no evidence whatsoever.” And yesterday, David Castor said that there was nothing to “connect” Donald Trump to the violence. The old Orwell quote comes to mind. It’s the only thing that fits here.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

Schoen said, “we won’t be up there a long time.” Good. We’re guaranteed to have our intelligence insulted, it’s nice to know it won’t take long.

  1. “Is there any political leader in this room who believes that if he is ever allowed by the Senate get back into the Oval Office, Donald Trump would stop inciting violence to get his way? Would you bet the lives of more police officers on that?” — Raskin

He should have also added: Would you bet your own life on it?

  2. The evidence is overwhelming. And the Impeachment Managers are doing an incredible job of laying it all out and making it clear. We all see it. It’s unfortunate that Senate Republicans refuse to see it. We have a lot of work to do for the ’22 midterms, our majorities are on a very thin line, and without a huge infusion of common sense into a large segment of the voting population, we could easily lose those majorities. Unfortunately, those people aren’t reading all these well thought-out articles.
