We know that stupid is as stupid does, but a corollary to that would be “stupid is as stupid refuses to recognize.” Yes, Madison Cawthorn had the week from Hell last week. It started out with him being caught in an airport with a gun, and not for the first time. As it turned out, what was actually the high point of the week, because by the time it got to the gay sex videos, insider trading, and allegations of corruption on the part of his staff, things were totally out of control.

But Cawthorn is framing all this as conspiracy theory on the part of the liberal media — and what is comical about that, is that the media is merely reporting on stories that the dirt diggers in the traditional GOP of North Carolina are making available to them.

Here’s his latest, from the wee hours. I wouldn’t be able to sleep either.

They are all making a difference in politics. I’ll give them that much. They are dragging it further down in the swamp, sewer, pick your metaphor, then it’s ever been before.

If you go through the Twitter thread you’ll see people say that Cawthorn is toast and you’ll see others that say he is bulletproof.

I doubt that he’s bulletproof. I would like to call your attention to the fact that Marge Greene took down her Twitter profile photo with the blazing satanic eyes. Even she realized that she was going too far — or, cooler heads prevailed and managed to convince her.

Tuesday, May 17 is the North Carolina primary. That should give us some indication of where Cawthorn stands. If he doesn’t pull 30% or better of the vote, it will go to a runoff between himself and the other top person. Or, somebody else may pull 30% or better and leave Cawthorn in the dust.

And again I say, where is Donald Trump in all this? You notice that we have heard crickets from him. For that matter, where is Newt Gingrich? Wasn’t he supposed to mentor Cawthorn? I think you’ll find Newt roasting one of his imperial lizards and eating it, long before you’ll find him mentoring Madison Cawthorn.

  1. Politically, Cawthorn is a dead man walking. He either gets taken out in the primary or the general but he’s going nowhere but down. When your own party is knifing you this bad, you either leave or stay until you bleed out. No fair guessing which one my money’s on.

  2. All of his problems are ones he brought upon himself, with his adolescent behavior and his lies about it.
Losing the primary is probably the best he can hope for, at this point.

  3. It’s ironic that his ouster will not create any great rift in the voters there. Will the voters supporting him not support his replacement choice? His disgraceful conduct in Washington is an embarrassment to the GOP, and I don’t see Donald around. Even he can see a sinking ship. It would be great if Donnie would still give him the nod and go down in blazes with him?
