There were the usual idiotic moments in Trump’s Revenge Rally in Ohio last night. He slurred his speech at one point and spoke of “law and auto” rather than law and order. But the screw up you’re about to see was not slurred speech or a mistake. This was a very deliberate statement.

And you thought the moon was made out of green cheese, silly you. No, Sir, it is a plant. It is, in fact, the same plant that Louie Gohmert wants the Forest Service to change the orbit of in order to cure climate change. Put that one in your crack pipe and smoke it.

People make verbal mistakes all the time. The fact he read “plant” off the teleprompter for “planet” is not really a problem or by itself an indication of anything. But you are correct. If Biden made the same mistake, they would have a field. The real problem is not only the high number of mispronunciations but also the frequency of sheer unintelligible gibberish that comes out of his mouth. Who wrote that the Moon is a planet? It’s name gives a pretty good clue as to what it is.
Indeed. One of the “adults” in the room wrote a speech. Wonder where that person’s head was…well, not really: up their a&s.
But I can read what for all intents and purposes is gibberish and my mind can make sense out of it. This is not a special talent. All of us who are probably beyond third or fourth grade can do it. All adults should be able to do it. When I read it, even aloud, gibberish is not what I read per se and definitely not what comes out of my mouth.

I’m guessing it was about being sent *to plant* a flag, but this is far from the first time Trump misreads a teleprompter. He almost always does the same thing: pretend that this was the actual sentence, then add a preposition followed by the actual wording. He even did it in *twice more* this very same speech, for two more misreads, at one point saying “Law and Auto… if you care about Law and Order”.
This is a pattern with him, this is how there was a significant drop in the market and panic from U.S. citizens abroad when he announced restrictions on entry in March 2020 as countries shut down, later clarifying that it only applied to cargo and not citizens like he had originally said.

Sure it is. Most of us, who can read, notice possible mistakes in the text and correct as we read, out loud or to ourselves.
People make those mistakes even when a teleprompter is not involved. People misspeak. It doesn’t mean anything. And in this case, it definitley does not mean that Trump intended to refer to the moon as a plant. And everyone would agree if it were Biden gaffe, except Trump supporters would use it to support their stupid dementia meme. The point of this story is that if dementia is an issue, it is more likely Trump’s issue, as evidenced by his sheer frequency of similar incidents. If analysis of an event is determined by partisanship, then the analysis is garbage.
The glaring problem with this statement, is trying to call the moon a planet, it is a MOON like all the other planets that have circling orbs like ours, the least exotic trained kid looking through a pair of binoculars at our moon has heard at sometime, as every breathing citizen, “the moons of Jupiter”, in fact, we were privileged to observe one of those moons crash into Jupiter at one time …
