Wow. There’s nothing subtle about this. And it begs the question of who else Kevin McCarthy has paid, now and back when he went 15 rounds in the ring to get the Speaker’s gavel in the first place. Raw Story:

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) received donations from Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s political action committee (PAC) ahead of her vote not to remove him as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

In a FEC fundraising report released on Sunday, McCarthy’s Majority Committee PAC is listed on two of six donations made to Greene’s congressional campaign.

The two $5,000 donations were dated July 19 — just weeks before Rep. Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) motion to “Vacate the Chair” that resulted in McCarthy’s ouster.

In all, Greene reported receiving $15,000 during the reporting period.

Follow the money is the adage of record in politics, simply because money is the Rosetta Stone. If you find out where it’s coming from you can parse together a great many things. McCarthy was at tremendous odds with Greene, as you well recall. She was in his office at one point, when she was being particularly outrageous and he wanted to discuss it with her and she walked out. Then, suddenly, there’s a 180 degree shift and then McCarthy vowed to “always protect that woman” and suddenly they’re besties.

Although them being besties didn’t give McCarthy the votes of all the MAGAs, which I suspect is what he must have been angling for by his alliance with Greene.

Oh, well, Kevin never was the greatest tactician in the world. That’s how he’s made history as the first Speaker of the House ever to be removed from the post. Too bad he can’t get his ten grand back. He might be able to use it if politics isn’t a viable source of employment anymore.

McCarthy says he’s planning to stick around and he debunked rumors that he was leaving politics. Maybe the choice won’t be his. NBC News:

WASHINGTON — Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., who was ousted as House speaker this week, shot down reports that he was considering an early departure from Congress and said Friday that he won’t be stepping down.

“I am not resigning. I got a lot more work to do,” McCarthy told reporters on Capitol Hill.

“We’re going to keep the majority. I’m going to help the people I got here, and we’re going to expand it further,” he said, referring to the 2024 elections.

His comments came shortly after two people familiar with the situation told NBC News said McCarthy was considering resigning.

One of the McCarthy allies said he was “exploring his options but has not made a definitive decision.”

“No decision made,” the other source said.

Politico first reported that McCarthy was considering leaving Congress before his term ends in early January 2025.

McCarthy was removed as House speaker on Tuesday in a 216-210 vote, with Democrats joining eight conservatives frustrated with his leadership in voting to oust him.

Hours after the vote, McCarthy announced during a press conference that he would not run again for the top post in the House. Asked whether he planned to remain a member of Congress, McCarthy said, “I’ll look at that.”

Before McCarthy denied reports of a possible resignation, a person who has not spoken to McCarthy directly but was in touch with people in his inner circle, said, “His thinking has vacillated a bit.”

Kevin is the Pushmi Pullyou on a teeter totter. He doesn’t know which direction he’s going, up, down, back, forth, sideways. He was definitely entertaining running for speaker again and said that on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show. Then he decided against. So given his track record, I would take anything he says with a grain of salt.

  1. The more the public sees Republicans for who they really are, the less the public likes them. Trump’s narcissism is spreading throughout the party, causing people who really should know better to believe that they have a wellspring of support that simply doesn’t exist. That hatred of democracy is why Republicans are less worried than they should be about their ballooning unpopularity. Republicans are already dependent on gerrymandering and voter suppression to give them power way beyond what they actually earn at the ballot box. They clearly expect, or hope anyway, that they can corrupt the system even further, so that voters never have a real say in who their leaders are again. But if this progressive backlash keeps growing, voters may actually have a chance to throw Republicans out before the GOP fires the kill shot on American democracy.

    • I wonder if he contributed to other people? We should find out in the next few days. The FEC takes a couple of weeks to compile the reports from September 30 and that’s why these stories are breaking now. This one and Boebert spending campaign money at her boyfriend’s bar are not the only stories I’m sure.
