You are judged by the company you keep is a time-worn axiom and the political version of that is, “personnel is policy” according to political writer Tim Miller. Miller recently discovered Ron DeSantis’ new hire, a speechwriter named Nate Hochman, who hopes that the “Republican party agenda is going to cohere around the culture war as its organizing, totalizing force.”

To that end Hochman keeps company with the likes of Nick Fuentes, whom he believes is a better “example” to young men who might become conservatives than Ben Shapiro. We are in some pretty heady company here, folks. Heady if you live in the weeds and a toadstool is the highest thing you’ve ever aspired to, that is.

Come, take a look at the DeSantis 2024 platform as it shapes up in the hands of his new speechwriting wordsmith. The Bulwark:

During his naked attempt to get Fuentes to think he was also based, Hochman says “when the man’s right, he’s right” in response to Fuentes’s claim that “women are goofy, okay, they should have no authority, they should have no authority over men.” Then, after Fuentes says that women “just really have no business in politics,” Hochman repeats his response: “When the man’s right, he’s right.”

Hochman later asked Fuentes how he plans to deal with the fact that “50 percent of American whites are, like, shitlibs now” if he wants to be successful in advancing white identity politics.

Women are goofy and shouldn’t be allowed in politics.

Half of white people are shitlibs.

Ron 2024.

It’s no wonder what with allies and speechwriters like Hochman on board, DeSantis already has fallen publicly and resoundingly on his butt.

With someone like Hochman aboard, it’s not a surprise that DeSantis’s first foray into foreign policy was a Tucker-approved written statement in which he tilted hard toward the party’s MAGA isolationist wing. Or that he backtracked from that in his first interview following the statement.

This will be one of the defining questions of the DeSantis campaign: Will pre-MAGA Ron re-emerge and bring aboard the GOP old guard? Or will he keep leaning toward the groypers and Orbánists and culture warriors on the nationalist “new right”?

That is the seminal question, right there. DeSantis has no ideas of his own. Again, he wants to do a Trump number and just be the figurehead. He’s too new to politics to have acquired knowledge and gravitas by dint of experience, nor does he have the visionary qualities of an Obama or a JFK. Those are pretty much the only two kinds of people that should be running for high office.

Plus, he’s in politics for all the wrong reasons, unbridled power being the main one. He’s no kind of a social engineer. He has zero ideas, let alone any original ones. DeSantis saw that Trump hired culture warrior types like Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller, and they handed him a platform and wrote his American Carnage inaugural speech for him. DeSantis is looking to duplicate the same formula.

So far, so bad. The wheels are maybe not off the wagon yet, but it looks like the tires have gone flat.

  1. He can go to Yale, Harvard, or the moon. A racist with the title ‘governor’ is just as ugly in 2023, as it was when governor Wallace blocked the school doors in the deep south in the 60s. Why not stand in front of a blown up photo of a mutilated black man hanging from a tree, with a horde of white people underneath, smiling like they’ve won the lottery? Stand up for your beliefs and the laws you make, you ‘educated’ pissant. Or, better yet, trip and break your goddamn neck on your way to spew your evil ideas. Just as good. It will save black children from feeling bad about the hell slavery put white people through. Right?

  2. Gotta hand it to Ron. Turned a purple state crimson by dint of bigotry and ignorance. He’s going nowhere. Can’t even find “leadership” in one of his banned books. Like trumpshit, he’s a loser.
