It’s a sad commentary on the age in which we live when a sitting governor of a state has to get on television and explain that he intends to uphold the rule of law and follow the constitution — and this is breaking news. But this has become necessary in the State of Georgia because of MAGA crazies who want to defund the Fulton County district attorney and get Donald Trump off the hook legally. Kudos to Brian Kemp. This country is now so polarized and Trump is such a toxic influence that any public official behaving like a sane adult and taking his or her oath of office seriously is a breath of fresh air.
This will upset the MAGAts no end. I can already hear Marge Green go off. This was one of her pet projects. Now Kemp has put a kabash on that pipedream. NY 1:
Kemp, who had previously survived scathing attacks from Trump over his refusal to endorse the former president’s false claims about the election, declined to comment on the indictment of Trump and 18 others at a conservative political conference hosted by radio host and Kemp ally Erick Erickson.
Noting that he had been called before a special grand jury to testify during the investigation, Kemp stated forcefully that Democratic President Joe Biden was the rightful winner of Georgia’s 16 electoral votes and said swinging the spotlight to Trump’s legal troubles would be a mistake.
“Democrats want us to be focused on things like this, so we’re not focused on Joe Biden’s record,” Kemp told Erickson on Aug. 18.
Trump, meanwhile, has kept up a withering assault on both Willis and Kemp.
“Governor Kemp of Georgia is fighting hard against the impeachment of the crooked, incompetent & highly partisan D.A. of Fulton County, Fani Willis, who has allowed murder and other violent crime to MASSIVELY ESCALATE,” the former president wrote Aug. 21 on his Truth Social platform. “Crime in Atlanta is WORST IN NATION. She should be impeached for many reasons, not just the Witch Hunt (I did nothing wrong!)”
There’s little evidence to support Trump’s claim that crime is escalating — the number of homicides has fallen sharply in Atlanta this year.
Other Georgia Republicans didn’t hesitate to assail Willis, with some joining Trump in the call to impeach the Atlanta-based prosecutor.
“Fani Willis should be ashamed of herself and she’s going to lose her job,” said Republican U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. “We’ll make sure of that.”
No you won’t Marge. This is a lost cause. Justice is finally going to be done.
Marjorie Traitor Greene should worry more about her own political survival. Gov Kemp won reelection handily with TFG and all his goonies trying their damnest to oust him. He owes MAGAts nothing. He knows DA Fani Willis is only doing her job and he’s not going to commit any possible constitutional crime to help Cheeto Jesus. Georgia, of all places, may be where our democracy is saved.

No way the psychos on the right want us to think about those things. They’d rather spread their lies about the ‘Biden Crime Family’ than focus on the truth of the ‘Trump Crime Family’. I hope Kemp continues to keep out of Fani Willis’s way as she executes justice against the criminals who tried to subvert democracy in Georgia. Lock ’em up.
By all means…let’s DO focus on his record! Can you imagine what he could have done if he hadn’t been handed a wrecked country, with a cult running the house, a corrupt Supreme Court full of illegitimate members, two corrupt senators who are bought by the fossil fuel and pharmaceutical industries, and a career criminal who tried to violently overthrow his presidency! Just imagine. Let’s make his second term free of these traitors. VOTE!!!!!
I cannot believe anyone could even think Gov. Kemp would do anything to get in the way of Willis. He basically told former guy to go f*ck himself with refusing to even consider looking for 11k votes. Having former guy get his just due in a trial would be frosting on Kemp’s cake. No, Kemp might do everything he can to ASSIST Ms. Willis. He sure as sh*t won’t let anything get in her way.
