Breaking:Trump squeals “Uncle!” on Census

Well, well, well. It seems as if Hair Furor finally found an issue that he just couldn’t obstruct on, no matter how much he might like to. MSNBC just broke the news that the United States Justice Department is declining to advise the Trump administration to attempt to delay the preparation of census forms for next years census.

As a result, the administration confirmed that the Commerce Department will begin printing the forms without the US citizenship question on it. After being rebuffed by the Supreme Court, Trump had pissily thundered that he would delay the census if necessary, in order for the matter to be relitigated, in hopes of getting the question on the 2020 census.

This is major news, and a major defeat, not only for Trump, but for the entire Republican party. If the general election surge against Trump turns into another tsunami, just like in 2018, it could end up flipping state legislatures blue. This would put the Democrats in control of the redistricting process in more states in 2021, so it is only natural that they wold want the maximum number of breathing souls to be counted, especially minorities which tend to lean more Democratic.

  1. Somewhere in the background, I hear Stevie Nicks’ “Landslide” playing. Got a feeling it won’t be the only good news we hear before the year is up.

  2. Aaannd…Himself is now whining on Twitter about the courts blocking him from asking this, and wanting to put the question in anyway.
Barr ought to have to go over to the WH and explain that there are rules about how to do this, and ignoring them has all kinds of bad effects…like more articles for impeachment.

First word from Maryland judge’s census call: Judge seemed “concerned” about Trump’s tweet & has given parties until 2pm Friday to come up with stipulation saying that citizenship Q will not be on census. Otherwise, equal protection claims will move forward – per lawyer involved

It sounds to *me* like the judge isn’t buying the DOJ lawyer’s claims.
