The political theater has been going on hot and heavy all day. We’re supposed to be in the glide path to the debt ceiling deal and that may end up being the case. As a matter of fact, I would bet on it. Joe Biden is no newcomer to these matters. He knows he’s got the votes or he wouldn’t have been able to persuade McCarthy to come this far. Nevertheless, it’s going to be high drama and pounding pulses until the very end. That’s the kind of personalities that are in office.

Hit this link to hear Lauren Boebert’s dire warnings.

This comment of hers is almost comical.

“If this bill passes with a majority of Democrats voting in favor of it, then I’m sorry, that’s the end of Kevin McCarthy’s speakership. That is a bad, bad look to pass a bill of this magnitude without the support of the majority and if it’s Democrats.”

Oh, Lauren. Get a clue. Get somebody to explain to you how government works. It’s not all black and white, who is technically in the majority.

Here’s more political theater.

And Matt has two cents to kick in, as usual.

My take on this is that it’s a done deal. My take is also that McCarthy will get demonized in the process. Who knows? The Freedom Caucus may go so far as to temporarily vacate McCarthy but I don’t believe they can permanently get rid of him. This is all theatrics.

  1. The interesting part is that ripping that Gavel McCarthy sold his soul for from his nasty little dick-skinners (jarhead speak for hands) AFTER the debt ceiling raise passes. I think you’re right. Biden knows he has enough votes from a Democratic Caucus that’s still gonna be so p!ssed some not only won’t vote for it, they’ll trash it. Which will actually work to Biden’s advantage as it will provide Republicans who go along with McCarthy some cover. You can bet the farm they will use that rhetoric to crow about “See? We WON! Democrats HATE what we got from them” to campaign on. Look, I don’t like the fact any negotiating, much less a deal happened in the first place. But this is one of those battlefield hospital triage situations. Or, as the Gunny put it in an episode of China Beach (his orientation lecture for a group of newbies with the “ten rules”) who, after recounting the tragic story from his days “a$$ in the grass” and the awful decision he had to make regarding “Dog Man.” With tears running down his cheeks he concluded with “Which brings me to Rule #11 – Don what you have to do.”

If they toss McCarthy we might see a sh!t show that would make the debacle that got him the gavel in the first place look like a love fest!

      • I didn’t go into the Corps until I was 26. I thought at that point my language was as “colorful” as it could get but DI’s taught me there were whole knew levels of profanity and vulgar expressions. You think didk-skinner when referring to hands is something? How about our mouth’s being “sucks” – as in dick-suckers? I could blister your eyeballs (or ears if we were talking) with expressions. Ah, but my “education” was far from over. From our Company Gunny (awarded the Navy Cross during Vietnam) to the troop handlers, again many of whom were combat vets we learned all manner of profanity. The legendary Clarence Darrow was sometimes criticized for using curse words and his response was that people have enough trouble communicating so they should use and words available to get others to understand what they said/meant. I’ve sometimes wondered how he’d react to the words grunts use to communicate when they don’t have to worry about anyone being offended at colorful language.

  2. Earth to Bobo and Chipper: if the bill passes with the bipartisan support of Democrats and Republicans, those same members are likely to vote down a motion to vacate. I think that’s the deal Biden and Jeffries offered McCarthy, and for him it was one he couldn’t refuse.

  3. Biden is playing chess with the toddlers in the house, who still are learning checkers. He negotiated the budget past the next election, blowing up their little mutiny. Considering what could have happened, it was the smart move. If the democrats can get their collective heads out of their asses and start clarifying what they’ve achieved, along with fascism looming as THE threat, they can get the house and senate and undo some of the damage. He’s the one with experience. They are the ones with make believe ideas.

  4. Boebert didn’t even vote on the bill. She was one of four, 2 Republicans and 2 Democrats, not to cast a vote.

I seem to recall the first hearing in Boebert’s divorce was scheduled for May 31. It was a Zoom hearing, but it might have conflicted w. the proceedings in the House.
