Tonight’s State Of The Union was a masterclass of electoral politics presented by a political master at the top of his game. And while Joe Biden has been in politics for some 55 years now, he showed that he has more energy and political chops than any young GOP whippersnapper.

Make no mistake, this was a beatdown of both Trump and the MAGA GOP like we have never seen before. And Biden didn’t just make his case in a campaign speech, he went right into the lion’s den of the GOP MAGA House, and cuffed them around like a bunch of red headed stepchildren. While MAGA Mike Johnson sat there stone faced, not knowing whether to sh*t, go blind, or wind his watch.

This wasn’t a State Of The Union speech. We’ve all seen those. Those all have the basic consistency of Gerber’s baby food. The President goes before congress, often a hostile congress, and tries to tout his accomplishments without trying to piss anybody from the other party off.

Not Biden. Not Tonight. Biden went into the GOP dominated House and laid down a smackdown. He called the GOP House out for daring to be cowardly enough to kowtow to Traitor Tot to deny Ukraine the weapons they need to fight for their very survival. And he even called out Traitor Tot as his predecessor for bowing in obedience to Putin. It wasn’t the only time. In his speech he directly referred to Trump as his predecessor or the former guy some 13 times. While MAGA Mike Johnson sat there, stone faced and impotent.

And he brooked no sh*t from the MAGA House base either. He seemed to take almost perverse pleasure in saying things that would rile the GOP House base, only to shout down and spank imbeciles like Machine Gun Marjie. And every time he did, the Democratic caucus rose to their feet in defiance, drowning out the MAGAt’s before they could do any serious damage.

This was a clearly furious President Biden, angered that he wasn’t getting the credit he deserved for his accomplishments, and ready to go to war. Time and again Biden touted his accomplishments, and castigated the GOP for opposing him. He repeatedly called out Trump by inference, and even directly slapped down the Roberts Supreme Court for their extremist views.

This was a Biden clearly loaded for bear. And he used his bully pulpit to proudly remind the country of his accomplishments, and excoriate the GOP House for standing in the way. And at one point he even challenged the GOP House, snidely reminding them that they were all cheering the funds from the infrastructure bill that they all voted against, and telling the House members, If you don’t want all that money, you just let me know.

Let’s be honest here. This was not a SOTU speech. Biden used the bulk of his speech to lay out the vision of his second term. Spoiler Alert! It was all stuff that progressives will love, and the GOP House have cardiac kittens over.

But the brilliance of Biden’s SOTU speech was that for once a Democrat used the speech as a purely partisan political tool. Biden used the speech not just to rev up his base for a 2nd term agenda, he used it as a hammer to slam the GOP for their shortsighted political policies.

And he wasn’t just speaking to his Democratic base. He was also speaking to that 10-15% independent and GOP and Democratic base he needs in November, telling him what he’d do for them if he gets a 2nd term with a Democratic dominated congress.

Trump has no way to offset this tour de force. And neither does the GOP. In one fell swoop Biden not only spanked the GOP for everything from reversing Roe v Wade to the J6 insurrection, tarring Trump in the process, but he also laid out his positive progressive vision for the next four years. And the GOP can’t do a goddamned thing about it.

  1. The President didn’t appear furious to me. There were instances of anger over injustices, but for the most part he struck me as a happy warrior.

  2. It seemed to me that Maga Mike kept sneaking glances over at the repugs, like he was checking for their approval or something. A very weak ‘leader’.

  3. He reminded me of Brad Pitt as Cliff the stuntman in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Phuck with him and he kicks your ass while smiling. Poor Mikey…he looked like his internal connection to ‘God’ was on the fritz. He looked like he couldn’t figure when to clap or smile or shake his head yes or no. Tough duty to be a christo-fascist on national tv getting smacked around by an old geezer. Ha. And he and his nazi party DID GET THEIR ASSES KICKED!
