Couple of interesting things here to look at: First of all, I didn’t know that you could say the four letter S word on television. I guess that this is new. I remember only too well how broadcasting standards forbade certain words, the same words that comedian Lenny Bruce went to prison over, as a matter of fact, but I guess now the word “shit” is public airwaves fare. Good to know.

Secondly, it is a good thing, the substance of the report here, that the Biden campaign intends to fight fire with fire. We are no longer in the days of “when they go low, we go high.” That’s because letting Trump get away with murder is considered acquiescence. Silence in the face of outrage is considered acceptance of the outrage. So while I hate, on the one hand, to see the Democrats go roll in the mud with Trump and his MAGA cult, it is necessary. Sad but true.

That’s the first avenue we need to go down, is Trump’s “final solution” with “build the wall, deport them all.” That is hardly an American mentality.

I’m of mixed feelings about this. First of all, I don’t think that vulgarity belongs on the airwaves. I can tell you Google is not crazy about it, which is why when we use profanity in a headline or lede sentence we alter it in some fashion. I don’t think children need to hear the language of the gutter coming out of the mouths of highly paid TV anchors.

However, on the other hand, Donald Trump is up there talking about “bullshit” “do whatever the hell you want” and calling people names and that needs to be addressed. We have to fight fire with fire.

The trick here is remaining above Trump’s level but also fighting him on his own turf. How that is to be accomplished, I don’t claim to know. But at least we need to try. This is a good beginning.

The bottom line here is that a rapid response coming from the White House is a great thing because it nips Trumps lies in the bud. That was what was missing from the Clinton campaign in 2016. I think Hillary may have deemed it undignified, but if she had simply shot back at him about the emails and whatever else, she could have blunted his attacks, if not nipped them in the bud.

But she didn’t and so everything landed on her and stuck. Demure is not the path to take in the era of Trump. Fighting back with both barrels is the way.

  1. Here’s to hoping President Biden continually nails the m-f*cker. So much so that little dingleberry starts crying like the bitch he is. Man I SO want the orange moron gone.

  2. Well, the word remains unacceptable on TV governed by the FCC which largely means CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS and Fox (the entertainment home of things like “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy”). But it pretty much was let loose on CABLE television thanks to the “South Park” episode “It Hits the Fan” (from 2001, believe it or not). Basically, the whole town (the whole country, in fact) is anticipating a network show (“Cop Drama”) in which a character is supposed to say the word on the air. As would be expected, the word doesn’t actually get spoken until the end of the show (not “South Park” but the fictional “Cop Drama”). Meanwhile during the actual episode, there’s a scorecard of how many times the word is ACTUALLY spoken during the episode. (There seems to be some confusion about the scorecard; the Wiki article about the episode suggests it didn’t exist in the original episode, only in subsequent broadcasts. Anyway . . . .) Since this episode opened the floodgates–so to speak–it didn’t really become that common for a decade or so but now most of the networks like FX and Comedy Central (that aren’t officially under FCC control) will use the word when the shows want to use it.
I don’t think its use is yet allowed on the major networks (at least, not without definite restrictions and limitations–a network show, probably a drama, might try to include 5 uses in the script but the network only allows it 1 time which is what had been the plan all along).
The “South Park” episode, though, is hilarious, especially as the repeated use causes all sorts of plagues and curses to strike (starting with it literally raining frogs) and the meaning of a “curse word” is very key to the plot. (Ultimately, the scorecard winds up with 162 uses, although 1 use is disputed and the word is written a number of times so the ultimate total pushes 200 uses.)

  3. To make a comparison here:
If the pull out a pistol, we need to use 30 cal machine gun. If they use a machine gun, we need to use a missile. If they use a missile, we need to go nuclear! We need to let the MAGA Cult have it with everything we have! When you are fighting for your life and the other side is fighting dirty, we can’t win if we don’t fight dirty too!!

    • I don’t think that’s the point at all. I think that helping them turn the weapon around and shoot themselves in the foot can be way more useful. It saves us buying the weapon. And the ammunition. Win-win-win, I’d say…
