The Trump reelection playbook is that Joe Biden has sold out to the radical left, i.e., Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. To that end, Trump did a phone in interview on Fox News Thursday and he described how Biden was going to pass a massive tax hike that none other than AOC had engineered. In true Trumpian form, he had to put down AOC in the process of describing this mythical legislation she was authoring, and AOCs response was classic.
Let’s make a deal, Mr. President:
You release your college transcript, I’ll release mine, and we’ll see who was the better student.
Loser has to fund the Post Office. https://t.co/OXnmJxufIw

Pure projection, that somebody else is a “poor student” and “not even a smart person.” We’re now within 82 days of ending this monstrosity of a faux administration. This is how ugly it’s going to be — and uglier. I hate to predict that, but one would have to be an idiot to think that Trump will stop at anything.
And I must say this: as inured as we have all become to Trump’s cheap vulgarity, to say about a congresswoman, “She goes out there and yaps” lowers the office of president about four floors, and this was before noon.
But he’s got to double down on the racism and misogyny because that’s all he’s got. Forget about saying the silent part out loud. Trump is screaming it to his base, which he hopes and prays either is larger than he knows, or is capable of metastasizing to the critical mass he needs to win reelection, if he just feeds it enough hate.
Look for Trump to spread verbal manure thicker than his pancake makeup, in order to survive. That is my forecast for the tone of Election 2020.
I like AOC.
She’s the real deal. (as opposed to others who are not)
Oh, I think most if not all in our party are the real deal. Just because some are not as left-wingy as AOC, doesn’t mean they aren’t the real deal.
P.S. As Dems, we need to stay united in order to beat the monstrosity in the White House, and regain the Senate as well.
Every time Trump talks, unity gets easier.
I didn’t mean any particular dems, at all. I just like the way she turns it back on him and calls him on his BS.
Also, she’s not that “left wing-y.” She’s in the top 50, but hardly one of Congress’s greatest progressive advocates. Progressive Punch currently has her in a tie for 62nd. She’s no Andy Levin or Joe Neguse but she talks a good game.
She may be. So are dozens and dozens of others, who may turn out to be realer.
I don’t mind her. I do find it aggravating that people on the left wildly overrate her, and given the rising talent we have, it’s clear it’s based on her being younger and prettier than her colleagues.
I’d put mine up against his, too – and I wasn’t the best student in any of my classes.
I’ll put my cat’s up against his, quite confidently.
Trump has sued to hide his grades. OAC graduated with a double major From Boston University one in economics another in international relationships and she did it with honors. I don’t think Trump has Any idea of her educational background. Would probably call it fake news if you told him.
Here’s the question everyone has stopped asking: how many of his own voters has he discouraged from voting at all with his current stunts? As Bill Palmer keeps saying, the only people he’s reaching are the votes he’s already got locked in. The rest of us are taking AOC’s lead in taking him seriously and John Lewis’ lead on voting.
I take my own congresswoman’s lead. She has been a true progressive champion for a decade, working hard to feed hungry kids, protect seniors, assure voting rights and fight off the gun lobby. She has opposed Trump for five years and is a true heir to John Lewis.
That’s literally one of the sillier and more content free adorable quips she’s made. Right now, I am irritated and disappointed, not with her, but with people on the left who are losing their minds over her and revealing our own shallowness and how easily we fall for facades. They’re griping that she has only 60 second to speak at the convention. Katie Porter and Lauren Underwood — far more accomplished and promising freshmen congresswomen who really could use the exposure because of their competitive races — have none.
She’ll go the distance or she’ll fade, Anastasia. Neither is worth fretting over. As you say, we’ve a lot of folks coming up who could go that distance.
60 seconds is long enough, for someone who can use Twitter like AOC does.
