Where is Sean Spicer when we need him, to tell us how many people watched something? The third night of the Republican National Convention, featuring Mike Pence, tanked in the ratings, being the lowest of the three nights of the convention so far. TV Line:

ABC, CBS and NBC’s coverage of Night 3 of the Republican National Convention amassed 4.9 million viewers (in fast nationals), marking the Big 3’s smallest combined tally thus far. (With cable newsers folded in, RNC Night 2 drew more than 19 million people.)

The Democrats got 18.2 million viewers on night two.

And then there’s this. Michael Mulvihill is in charge of analytics at Fox Sports.

54% is a lot. So, Monday’s cocaine-fueled revival meeting didn’t do so well, then Melania’s gaslighting Soviet-fashion show came on Tuesday, and that got mixed reviews, and slightly higher ratings than the DNC, then Mike Pence went on stage and bombed. So what that means, in no uncertain terms, is that Donald Trump has to hit a grand slam home run tonight to make the RNC a “hit” because that’s all that he cares about, is ratings.

As I suggested in a blog last night, maybe he could have Vladimir Putin come on stage and sing, “You Are The Wind Beneath My Wings.” Or maybe Jerry Falwell, Jr. can come out and watch the pool boy. Short of that, or bursting into flames, I don’t know what Trump’s going to do to get attention. It looks like the RNC is for the true believers and that the rest of the country is tuned elsewhere.

  1. I’m not surprised. Second-rate people get second-rate audiences. Third-rate people, like the “guests” they have trying to demonstrate that they’re “real Americans”, get third-rate audiences. (I wonder who my former lead person will be backing this time. She’s a racist, and backed Fiorina and Whitman in 2012.0
