Donald Trump is go to hell if he’s going to be rendered irrelevant. Even though that’s the handwriting on the wall and the obvious take that everybody is reaching, it’s not anything that he will accept.

He got pretty miffed last week when he issued an all caps command on Truth Social for the Republicans to support Kevin McCarthy’s Speaker bid. What happened? Zip. Nada. Rien de tout. Trump’s edict didn’t move a single vote.

So, it’s Monday morning and Trump is back again with more orders for his troops to carry out. He’s not going to be ignored this time, by golly.

What’s that you say? How are primaries going to take place right now, when we just finished an election cycle? Details, details.

Yes, Trumpty is unconcerned about these details and he’s unconcerned about the details of what happened to the national debt when he was in office. Luckily Charlie Sykes remembers.

President 45 added more to the national debt in four years that either Barack Obama of George W. Bush did in their two terms. Even conservative analysts reported that Trump added $7.8 trillion in ten-year budget deficits.

The largest drivers were pandemic-relief legislation ($3.9 trillion), the 2017 tax cuts ($2 trillion), and legislation raising the discretionary spending caps ($1.6 trillion). Other costs included disaster aid and other discretionary spending ($493 billion), repeal of several Affordable Care Act-related taxes ($299 billion), and hundreds of small policies ($201 billion).

All of this has slipped Trump’s mind. Well, worry not. The United Republican Congress will save us all.
