Kevin McCarthy is a groveling punk and everybody knows it. Again, if I sound harsh, the former RNC chair, Michael Steele, used both those words to describe him just this morning, just as Nancy Pelosi used the words “spineless” “empty suit” and “moron.” I don’t have to judge McCarthy, all I have to do is quote others who have.

McCarthy is mocked on both sides of the aisle. Matt Gaetz is out to get him and he may very well succeed. Gaetz has at least seven nay votes to McCarthy (although figures of up to 30-some votes are being tossed about) which is enough to deny him the Speaker’s gavel.

“The reality is that Kevin McCarthy has no friends,” says Steele. Even Jim Clyburn said that McCarthy needs to look on the other side of the aisle for support and if Clyburn, the ne plus ultra of pragmatists says that, you can take it to the bank. McCarthy is up the creek, bigly. This is a funny clip, watch the whole thing.

Here’s the simple truth: Kevin McCarthy doesn’t have what it takes to be a House speaker, Senate leader, that level of position. If you look at the people who have successfully held those posts, on both sides of the aisle, they understood the dynamics of politics and how to play the chess game that it is.

McCarthy doesn’t. He has demonstrated zero control of his caucus the past two years and it’s not getting any better. Nobody respects him.

I think you’re going to be looking at an upset here. If Clyburn is talking about Democratic support for a leader, it won’t be McCarthy. It could well be Fred Upton or Liz Cheney, if the Democrats can caucus with another sane Republicans.

Or maybe Paul Ryan or John Boehner will come out of moth balls. Who knows? Again, as is the case with so many things political these days, we are in uncharted waters. The only thing that is crystal clear right now is that the House is going to be a madhouse come January. Beyond that, we don’t know.

  1. Steele would know…he used to run with more competent crooks. And seven is more than enough to deny McCarthy his dream. You can be sure Hakeem Jeffries is not only taking notes (and advice from Nancy Pelosi) but getting ready to make a move. I give it a month before he and his team pounce. The GOP House caucus should be weakened enough by infighting then.

  2. The best part is that McCarthy seems to be the only person on earth who doesn’t understand that he was NEVER going to be the speaker of the house. Never. Ever. Not in a million years. I’m lovin’ it! 😄😄😄
