For the first time ever I will say about a Steve Bannon comment, “From your lips to God’s ear.” An under the weather Bannon was on his War Room podcast today with Steve Cortes of Newsmax.
Of course they went through the ritual deification of the Dreamsickle Deity. This is one of the podcasts funded by the Trump Cult and so obeisance must be paid, right?
Cortes sets up Bannon’s pitch by saying how all powerful the Orange Oracle is and boy, will “they” be sorry — read Deep State, DOJ, FBI, the local Humane Society, who knows? — when Trump gets back in the game.

How I hope Trump listens to Bannon. Oh, how I hope. What I wouldn’t give to see it. I cannot think of a better way to:
- Throw a monkey wrench in Trump’s works, because the RNC will stop paying his legal defense bills if he announces now — or so they said a week ago;
- Polarize the midterms beyond all rationality. Although in truth, that may already be done;
- Make the midterms a referendum on Trump. That’s exactly what the RNC didn’t want the midterms to be but that is exactly what would happen if he announces his candidacy. And in point of fact? That may be where we are anyhow, whether he announces or not, with the GOPers all fundraising off the raid.
I love it. I totally do. Nothing and I mean nothing would please me more than to see Trump announce his candidacy right now, today.
And you know something? He might do it just because of the theatricality of it. Remember, this is all a TV show to him. If he feels that this is the best way to get “good numbers,” attention, and increase the grift, he’ll do it. Hang the midterms and hang the GOP.
My fingers are crossed.
He wants to, of that I am sure. He won’t because he needs the RNC to pay his legal bills. Also, I think if he announces now, he’ll light a fire under DOJ to indict him on the presidential records which would result in his arrest right after the mid-terms. So, since he has no ability to see any further ahead than today, I’m hoping he throws caution to the wind and announces this week.
Let’s hope. I am counting on his total lack of impulse control to guide him.

Bannon is at heart an anarchist. I’ve said it before, he is far more than butt-hurt, he’s burning with anger over not rising to the top of the Navy. He was generally well-regarded as a Naval Officer and all that but his posting at the Pentagon on the CNO’s staff did two things. First, it fueled his delusions of grandeur that HE should one day be the one sitting behind the CNO’s desk, and even (probably) topping even that by becoming Chair of the Joint Chiefs. It’s not like the posting he had wouldn’t have given him a leg up on advancement, and regardless of branch of service in the Officer Corps it’s up or eventually out. I will always believe that although he was considered a good officer who got his shit done just fine, from his position he developed contacts that fed him enough info. that he knew he’d never make it to Commander (O-5) and even get in twenty years, much less advance to Captain and then Flag (admiral) Rank.
So he got out of the Navy and got rich on Wall Street but I will always believe he’s harbored a burning resentment that he wasn’t “anointed” to become a future Flag Officer, much less CNO material and for damned sure not Chair of the Joint Chiefs. I served part of my tour in the DC area standing duty in those high dome spaces and interacted with more than my share of high ranking Naval Officers including Admirals. I can assure you that was way the fuck out of Steve Bannon’s league.
Over time his bitterness has grown, and he wants the whole fucking system to burn to the ground so he can piss on the ashes. He’s got money and some little hideaway island somewhere where he’ll be just fine as the world he envisions is in ruins. He’s against Democrats of course, but I think if you take a look he’s made some serious insider efforts to bring the GOP crashing down on itself. And of course as we know he’s globetrotting trying to destroy other Democracies.
I think he shares a trait with Trump – delusions of grandeur and hated of self and others that those delusions of being universally adored haven’t come true. And because of that he (and Trump too) is determined to as I said burn the whole damned thing down.
