This is one of those clips which beggar description. You have to see it to believe it. This is a member of the Texas House Of Representatives, a Republican needless to say, and he’s got all the answers. “We’re going to convict and punish” the people who misuse assault rifles and murder people.
This isn’t a tad bit surprising. Here’s a succinct analysis of how the right-wing reaction to Uvalde shakes down.
Monitoring right-wing politicians statements and interviews since the latest school shooting, I can break them down into two camps: One desperately wants to look like they are doing something, while doing nothing. The other just defiantly says they won’t do anything. That’s it.

Here, representing Group A is James White. You cannot make this stuff up. It’s SNL cold open time, once again. The man you are about to hear is Chair of Homeland Security and Public Safety in the Texas State Legislature.
“We’re going to look at the people who do these acts. We’re going to convict them and we’re going to punish them”
“Sir, you can’t convict him. He was killed along with 19 children in the school behind me” pic.twitter.com/Y5f6HZ0ZWU

Parse through the meaning of these comments:
- No, we’re not going to change the laws;
- Ergo, we know that there will be other mass shootings, like the night follows the day;
- But by golly we’re going to Convict and Punish!
- Umm……unless the perp is already dead, which is usually the case…um…..
Here’s another clip from the same interview. Remember, this man is in government. I wouldn’t want him rolling my burrito at Taco Bell.
CNN's @AlisynCamerota asks Texas State Rep. James White (R) " we've all seen how quickly and creatively Texas, your local legislature, can act when it wants to, say, protect the unborn embryo. Why not act with that alacrity
to protect living, breathing 10-year-olds?" pic.twitter.com/L64rT2urQB— Sarah Reese Jones (@PoliticusSarah) May 25, 2022
Now be of good cheer, because at least the GOP has made an analysis and come up with a plan. You’ve just heard it.
Here is a survivor of the Pulse Nightclub massacre with his perspective of Mr. White’s comments.
I am at a loss. 19 babies sent to school never to come home. What are we doing?
Power-hungry elected leaders who have sold our country to merchants of death in exchange for help up the political ladder should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. pic.twitter.com/SkP6uM7BWc

Where does the GOP find them? Or, I guess I have that backwards. They find the GOP.
And they called Beto a “crazy son of a bitch.” But this Mr. White, he’s sane and making complete sense, I guess.
And the bottom line, once again is this: the GOP loves you in utero. They can’t do enough to “protect” you. The minute you’re in grades 2-4, however, you’re on your own. Don’t look to them.

OK – prosecute the ones responsible for the tragedy:
Let’s start with whoever sold a teenager an assault rifle and ammo.
Then go for the idiots who allow sales like this to happen
After that, there are the politicians who refuse to allow any control over high power weapons.
Alright, the Second Amendment does give the right to ‘carry and bear arms’ – but that is for a ‘well regulated militia’ and not for anyone who fancies himself as another John Wayne – all gung ho and avoid any military service
Now bear in mind that the Second Amendment dates from the late 18th Century – so let’s keep in with the ‘originalists’ and allow it to remain – BUT, only weapons from that period are allowed – say ‘bye-bye’ to your assault rifle and say hello to your nice shiny black powder, single shot, flintlock musket
