This is the end…my only friend, the end.….” — The Doors

Politics does indeed make for strange bedfellows: Make room under the covers for the two GOP senators from North Carolina, Thom Tillis and the retiring Richard Burr, because whatever their differences with Democrats, they join us all in their unremitting disgust for Madison Cawthorn. Evidently, the talk of drug-filled orgies among the Old School GOPers was a bridge too far, and Cawthorn has made a lot of enemies.

I think after Cawthorn is done, which I hope will be soon, that his name may become a new meme in our culture. To “cawthorn,” will mean something similar to FUBAR. To really fall on one’s ass, beyond all common sense or possibility of redemption, will be called “doing a cawthorn.” Just watch. CNN:

Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina is throwing his weight behind a primary opponent to freshman Rep. Madison Cawthorn — an extraordinary broadside against a fellow Republican from his home state, as internal frustration with the controversial MAGA firebrand reaches a boiling point.

“It comes down to focus on the district, producing results for the district, and in my opinion, Mr. Cawthorn hasn’t demonstrated much in the way of results over the last 18 months,” Tillis told CNN, describing why he is backing state Sen. Chuck Edwards in his primary against Cawthorn.
And Tillis may not be alone. Other GOP lawmakers who are at their wits’ end with Cawthorn are considering endorsing one of his primary foes, according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions, amid growing concerns that the North Carolina Republican is dragging down the entire party with his problematic behavior. The two most powerful North Carolina Republicans in the state legislature — Senate leader Phil Berger and House speaker Tim Moore — are headlining a fundraiser for Edwards on Thursday, according to the Edwards campaign.
It’s the latest sign of turmoil for the 26-year-old, who has angered and annoyed a wide swath of his colleagues with a steady stream of controversial antics and attempts to play political kingmaker in North Carolina and beyond. Most recently, Cawthorn sparked an uproar after claiming on a podcast that people in Washington have invited him to participate in orgies and used cocaine in front of him. Even fellow members of the House Freedom Caucus, a far-right crew with a penchant for controversy, have turned on Cawthorn: They’ve floated the idea of kicking him out of the group if he didn’t clarify his wild accusations, according to GOP sources, though such a step seems unlikely.
I don’t see how Cawthorn is going to survive on these facts. Just look at this picture:
1. The Freedom Caucus hates him;
2. Kevin McCarthy is not exactly nuts about him;
3. Tillis and Burr hate him;
4. The two most powerful GOPers in North Carolina state government are throwing a freaking fundraiser tomorrow to primary him;
5. And last, but decidedly not least, the man screwed himself by announcing he was leaving his district to run for office from a newly created district, and then the district vanished overnight with the stroke of a pen!!!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!
I mean, if Aaron Sorkin, or anybody who writes this stuff for Hollywood can cobble together a better script, please, let us see it. Because I cannot imagine how it is possible to so thoroughly and totally step on one’s own dick and then run over it with one’s own wheelchair, while slashing both wrists simultaneously — and that is the best metaphor I can come up with for what Cawthorn has done to himself.
Oh, it will be fun to watch this turd circle the political bowl and go down the drain forever. He is truly a piece of work.
The last straw was today. Cawthorn met with Kevin McCarthy and then — guess what? — he wouldn’t tell reporters who the Old School GOPer was that invited him to an orgy. Could it be Newt Gingrich? Cawthorn said Newt was his new mentor, Newt said he never talked to the guy.
Just watch. Clueless as Cawthorn, or just the word “cawthorn” will become a meme.

  1. He broke the one cardinal rule of Republicanism…..

    …..he told the truth.

    That can absolutely not be tolerated.

    • As screwed up as Republicans are, I seriously doubt that if one or more of them were throwing an orgy, that they would invite this stupid POS. That podcast was ridiculous. Cawthorn was saying what a horrible job it was, being a lawmaker in D.C. Well, good. He won’t have to do that horrible job too much longer, it appears.

      What a moron. Rather than thank his lucky stars that somehow he landed where he did, in Congress, and work like hell to keep it, look at what he’s done? Pure, 180 proof stupidity. I’ve never seen anything even close to this — with the obvious exceptions of Boebert and Greene.

    • I don’t think he’s hit 18. I would say more along 12, 13. I remember being 18 and I was considered “mature” for my age and some of my friends really had their act together, too. Cawthorn isn’t even that far.

  2. That’s great in a way but I’m still pissed at tillis & burr for being totally up trump’s ass, voting to put a belligerent drunk/rapist on the Supreme Court while saying no to judge Jackson, & violating their oaths of office & perjuring themselves in the two impeachment trials that never happened. They are pond scum. Maddie does lie like a rug but who knows what these shitballs are capable of or have done. Oh Jeffery where art thou? Did u keep a log of visitors to rape island? NO telling. By the way the republican shitgibbons made NC one of 12 states that didn’t expand medicaid, resulting in a lot of unnecessary death & suffering while they enjoy FREE Healthcare. Evil pustules off of Satan’s ass. Guess I can find comfort in a house divided.

    • I completely agree with your comments about Tillis and Burr. That’s what makes it so hilarious that they think the way we do about Cawthorn. God, I am going to enjoy watching him go down in flames. I’m going to roast marshmallows with the laptop. Don’t know how, but I’ll do it, watching the demise of Cawthorn from politics.

  3. I realize that Cawthorne is paraplegic and the wheelchair part of this is in bad taste but… In the movie Manhunter (the good version with William Petersen made in the mid 80s and not the more recent piece of crap version) the sleazeball tabloid guy Freddy Lownds gets on the bad side of a creative serial killer who comes up with an end for him that perfectly illustrates the end of Madison KKKawthorne’s electoral career and maybe (if wish wish and/or pray really hard) his career as a pundit on Fox or other places people actually watch

    • I never saw this movie but metaphorically, it’s spot on. Hey, I got an idea. “Cawthorn” could become an image of self-immolation. This is perfect!

    • How about the scene where Hannibal talks the aide into pushing the wheelchair bound ultra rich tyrant into the pit with the ravenous pigs raised to attack Hannibal. Poetic justice.

    We ALL know that the far-right has two sets of rules: One for themselves and one for everybody else. I have absolutely no doubt that Cawthorn WAS approached to participate in orgies and he DID witness people using cocaine (maybe Don Junior in both cases?) because it’s funny to me that the same group who have no problem accusing Democrats of participating in satanic rituals and orgies that involve pedophilia and killing children for their blood would demand Cawthorn “clarify” his allegations.

    • The thing is, I’m fairly sure that when Rep. Cawthorn made the statement he believed that the MAGA base would automatically assume that THOSE GODLESS DEMOCRATS had given him the invitation(s), and that this would descend into another rage-filled bout of Lib bashing.

      Except NO-ONE thought even for a second that he would get any sort of party invitation from the Democratic side, so therefore it MUST have come from his fellow Republicans.

      I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s currently horrified by the feedback, and may just be coming to the realisation that his time is done.

  5. When people hear “GOP Orgies”, they think Chuck Grassley and…
    One second while I bleach my brain to erase that image.
    …that seems “unlikely”. But don’t forget Matt Gaetz is also part of the House GOP Perv caucus.
    Now I need more bleach.

  6. I wouldn’t be surprised if what Cawthorn states is true. If what he said is true, he’ll use it to blackmail those now speaking against him. We may see him and the repubs make an agreement where he retracts and is rewarded for his silence.

  7. Right, the orgies could have been going on for years. Maybe they just invite the new younger guys to impress them and get them on their “side”. Like… “Hey young 26 year old, wanna go to an orgy?” They probably think they are pretty cool. The women would love it I guess.

    Speaking of, I saw Cawthorn on TV the other day, he looked and talked like a high school kid! I was really shocked at how young he seemed. I think he is way out of his element and should just go somewhere and sit down. LOL didn’t mean to make a joke, hope that’s not inappropriate.
