This is interesting. This has all the earmarks of something that leaked out and now Joe Manchin is miffed that it leaked. The story of Manchin having an exit strategy was broken by Mother Jones, specifically by David Corn who is the head of the Washington, D.C. bureau. His credibility is very high. He wouldn’t have put himself out on the ledge by publishing that story unless he had some pretty good reason to do so, is my guess.

Maybe his office(s) has been getting flooded with calls like the kind I’ve made to him (I was once one of his constituents and speak fluent “y’all” which makes me credible to staffers when combined with my knowledge of the state) and he’s thinking perhaps he’s overplayed his hand. Maybe one of his staffers took up a suggestion I made a while back when I suggested they look up how the British treated Benedict Arnold (with contempt – he wound up begging forgiveness from his former pals in the Revolution and even plead his case for reinstatement to Freemasonry here in the U.S. George Washington himself was present that night and was invited sit the Master’s (of the Lodge) chair to preside over the proceedings. Anyway Mister Arnold, who had thought oh so highly of himself found out being a traitor to his peers made him a pariah even to those who he sold out his own people to!) and got Manchin himself to take a look. But he barely survived his last re-election bid and he’s toast no matter what at this point. His ONE chance to hang on is to do what Democrats, most Independents and even some Republicans in his shit-ass-at-the-bottom state want and get behind the President and the Democratic Party and vote for real reform and change.
Even that won’t (probably) be enough but he’s rich, the evil spawn he and his equally corrupt wife raised and sent out into the world are rich. None of them ever have to work another day in their lives and can live out their lives in a luxury most West Virginians can only fantasize about. How much more do they need?
I ALWAYS have to wonder in amazement at the people who attack Manchin’s attitudes with regard to his constituents? Does anyone think that they’re REALLY that unhappy with Manchin’s “stonewalling” and all considering the fact that a good number of those very same constituents WILLINGLY elected a Republican as their OTHER US Senator? (And that they came pretty close to voting Manchin out of office in 2018?)

He got rich off coal and continues to rake it in from coal. The rich are never satisfied – they need more, more, more. Manchin is willing to abet the GQP and torch democracy in his quest for more.
From what I’ve read, Manchin makes a whole lot more from coal than he makes from his salary as a Senator. I think he’d rather give up his position in the senate than let the climate change/renewable energy provisions of Biden’s plan become law. He personally has much more to lose if the latter happens. I think we are fucked unless we can pick up seats in the Senate in 2022.
He won’t give up his position when he can cock-block so much desperately needed climate legislation. You’re correct, he, his wife, daughter & son pull in millions from coal/fossil fuels. He will work his ass off to make good and goddamned sure that money continues to line their pockets.
