Senseless violence has become the new American pastime. None of us are safe, and certainly not on the public streets or in normal institutions like schools, government buildings, stores. Whether we are safe in our own homes is debatable. The Second Amendment was designed to protect the home, but it was never contemplated to include weapons of war in the hands of the mentally unstable.

Within the past hour, the sounds of 20 or 30 gunshots rang out on 14th Street in Washington, D.C.

The “black sedan” is what kicks off some speculation about mob hit.

The tweeter here is a reporter for Huffington Post.

Maybe it’s premature to call this a mass shooting. You need four dead people to qualify for that, so far this is only two gun shot wounds. Did you ever think that tally would be something to be grateful for? “Wow, did we get lucky, only two shot and they’re both alive.”

As usual, words fail. But it’s not surprising that this happens as often as it does. The right-wing gun nuts just love the glamour of guns and the illusion of power. They don’t see the situation for what it is, which is a horrific outworking of an inability to cope with other issues.

And listen to this moron, touting lawlessness to a rapt crowd. Do what you want to do and back it up with a gun. This would be bad enough from some random guy in the street. This man wants to run for Governor of Wisconsin.

“We need a dominionist theocracy armed to the teeth. That’s what God wants.”

The cultural gap widens. It’s not even August and it looks to be a record breaking year. To date, the number of mass shootings in the country is 20 percent higher than where we were in 2020, and that figure is 30 percent higher than the previous high.

So far, 1,800 people injured or killed this year in a shooting. That statistic is from the Washington Post, two weeks ago. Go ahead and add two more and keep the eraser handy. This is a fluid figure, constantly changing. Who knows who will be shot or dead tomorrow? Welcome to Dystopia.
