I wrote yesterday about the mess Kimberly Guilfoyle who for now is still our Ambassador to Greece might be such that Trump will want her gone. Reports out of DC today suggest Trump and Rubio have been talking about Guilfoyle and not in ways she will like. By all indications she’s about to learn the hard way that she’s not bulletproof. That despite her years long ‘engagement’ to Don Jr. she’s not a Trump and is as disposable as anyone else.
Multiple outlets have been reporting on this today including Fox News. They are more plugged into the goings on with this White House and Trump’s inner circle and from their reporting it looks like the only question is when Guilfoyle will be fired for what Fox (accurately – go figure) says are reports she sought a six-figure credit card bailout from a Trump donor while offering access to administration officials, adding to mounting allegations over her conduct in Athens. For good measure they add that there are mounting allegations regarding her conduct in Athens. From there Fox doesn’t pull any punches:
President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are “extremely pissed off” by Guilfoyle’s reported conduct and are weighing her removal, The Associated Press reported Sunday, citing a senior U.S. official.
The official told the AP that a decision on what action to take would likely come this week after Monday’s Columbus Day holiday. No departure has been confirmed.
Guilfoyle, onetime fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., came under scrutiny this week after The Wall Street Journal reported that she asked Trump donor Eric Deters to pay off a $100,000 American Express bill shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing.
I say she’ll be lucky to last out the week. At most it will be a proverbial ‘Scaramucci’ before she’s a victim of ETTD Syndrome. It’s often said (including by me) that only Trump manages to get away with the crap Trump does/gets away with. It’s also an article of faith that he will throw anyone under the bus to save his own fat orange butt. Still, when it comes to his family although he doesn’t actually love them they are family and if he can he’ll put up with more than he would for anyone else and even provide some cover. I forget how many years (Four? Five?) Guilfoyle was engaged to Don Jr. but however many it didn’t make her a Trump in Trump’s eyes.
Nope. She’s in her current job not because she (as she apparently thought) at the very least an ‘Honorary Trump’ (granted, ‘honor and related derivatives and Trump mix about as well as oil and water) if not an actual Trump – perhaps Common Law version. She never was and never will be. I say she got a pretty nice Ambassadorship because of what she learned living up close and personal (I know – eeeewww!) with Don Jr. Ah the stories she could tell about goings on at Mar A Lago and Bedminster! An Ambassadorship to a place like Greece was transactional. Her silence in exchange for a cushy posting and the perks that went with it.
As for the whole attempted bribe scandal regarding her Senate hearing when you think about it Trump probably would have loved the chutzpah if he knew ahead of time. In fact he may well have. Alas, it turned out NOT to be discreet. Now it’s news and at a time when Trump is already juggling a bunch of running chain saws. As SecState Rubio doesn’t come out looking so good in all this either. No wonder he and Trump are “pissed.” Add in that facing a potential wipe-out the GOP needs every big donor dollar it can get and Eric Deters has just given those deep pocketed donors an excuse to keep their wallets closed when Team Trump and other GOPers come begging for last minute donations for additional ad buys.
I have provided Fox News’ article because while it includes denials from Guilfoyle’s lawyer they lay out a lot more allegations and details than the 100k ‘donation’ Guilfolye tried to get from Deters. In other words it’s a signal to everyone including Guilfoyle that her job and career are going to suffer an implosion ordered by Trump. Using Fox this way might in fact be either a signal to Guilfoyle to fall on her sword, or softening her up to accept a deal of some sort that if she just makes a Trump serving statement and goes away AND keeps a low profile for a good while she’ll be taken care of.
That raises some questions. First, if I’m right will Guilfoyle get the message? Second, if she doesn’t quietly respond will Rubio deliver an offer/ultimatum privately? Finally, either way will Guilfoyle accept being cast aside and go away quietly and with a tiny bit of dignity? On that last one all bets are off. Guilfoyle is nothing if not brash. And self-serving. I’d hate to be a Vegas odds maker setting the line on whether she’ll go quietly or lash out but I’d bet on the latter. I take my entertainment where I can find it these days and Guilfoyle going on a rampage against the Trump’s would be entertaining as hell.
I’m already having fun with the thought of Guilfoyle hearing not a Telltale Heart but a Ticking (Countdown) Clock. Counting down to the end of her career and with an IG after her (with Trump’s approval I should add) perhaps even her freedom. From where I sit she’s long been an insufferable jerk, so I say Tick Tock a$$hole!
