It’s another big election year, so I suggested to the team that it would be the right time for us to come up with a campaign song. The Furkids snuffled and shuffled about for a bit until someone suggested “Come Together” by The Beatles. I was surprised to learn how appropriate this song actually was when my research discovered that John Lennon was asked to write a campaign song for a candidate whose slogan was “Come Together”. He wrote a few lines, but they weren’t what the candidate was looking for. Lennon, however, liked what he had so far, showed it to Paul McCartney and together, the two songwriters worked it into its final form.
It fits perfectly with the theme the Furkids want for this year: come together and help each other. I agree that this is a fine motto for 2026 after the turbulence we’ve all been experiencing. Also, the Furkids added, they prefer mottos over resolutions because, as they maintain, it’s easier to stick to a motto. A resolution might involve reducing the number of treats, and they’re firmly against this.

Some of the lines, as Lennon happily admitted, are intentional nonsense — and I rather think that’s why it appeals so much to the Furkids. They adore nonsense! Of course, they added their own touches as well. I think John Lennon would’ve approved.
