This has been some 24 hours. The worst case scenario for Republicans manifested in the Lone Star State last night. Ken Paxton and John Cornyn now face a runoff in the spring, which is a disaster, and Jasmine Crockett graciously conceded to James Talarico, with the prediction that “Texas is going to flip blue.” Then along comes Marjorie Taylor Greene and she has the same prediction, albeit for slightly different reasons. Raw Story:
Former MAGA lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) had a harsh message Wednesday for President Donald Trump as results from the Texas primary showed a serious problem for the Republican Party ahead of the midterms.
Greene, the former Trump ally who has now become a vocal critic of the administration, described why the voter turnout in Texas could signal challenges for Republican candidates not just in the Lone Star state — but across the United States — as the Trump administration ramps up its military attacks against Iran.
“Now that Trump and his admin betrayed their campaign promises of No More Foreign Wars/No More Regime Change and Republicans in the majority in the House and Senate are flat out refusing to pass key legislation, voter outrage was shown in yesterday’s Texas primary,” Greene posted on X early Wednesday.
Greene pointed out that “more Democrats showed up to vote than Republicans in yesterday’s Texas primary” and that if that happens in November, Texas could flip its Senate seat blue.
The last time a Democrat won a statewide election was in 1994, she added.
Greene left office in January and has suggested that the MAGA coalition has fractured over its “America First” ideology.
“Whatever Trump’s new twisted perversion of MAGA is, is going to LOSE in the midterms,” Greene wrote. “Clearly Levin, Lindsey Graham, Loomer, and Netanyahu highjacking MAGA and flipping it to MIGA is not working out so well. People do not want to vote for this s— show and didn’t turn out in Texas. Maybe they will wake up now and realize Armageddon is not what we voted for. We voted for America FIRST and that means AMERICANS FIRST AND AMERICANS ONLY.”

Um, I think you’ve got the myth a bit wrong. Cassandra was gifted with “true prophecy” by Apollo who then cursed her so that no one would believe her prophecies (and the curse was placed because she spurned his advances). She wasn’t really a “prophetess of doom” as such; it’s just the ones that made the various stories (especially with regard to the Trojan War) are the only ones that were described. It’s not like there was a whole volume of Cassandra’s prophecies (like Nostradamus’ work, “Les prophéties,” with its famous–or infamous–hundreds of quatrains of prophecies) from which we could see some of her “happier” ones (like, “You will wed Atraxas and have a happy marriage and bear many strong, healthy children” or “Yes, your bread will be known to all in the world and they will seek you out”).
So, for Margarine to be the GOP’s Cassandra, her prophecy will come true but no one will believe her prophecy.
Am I the only person weirded out by thinking ‘from her lips to god’s ears?’ about MTG? Okay, so most here know I’m agnostic but y’all know what I mean. If we do put boots on the ground in Iran and casualties get up into even dozen’s dead a hundreds wounded it’s going to cause a significant reaction from MAGAs. They will either vote third Party or not vote at all in more numbers than the GOP can deal with.
When it comes to Tex-ASS I feel like the Cubs fan I became (and have remained) since I was five years old. That ‘this year it will happen’ feeling getting cruelly crushed. Well, there was that ONE year. For all that had gone wrong so quickly in my life prior to them winning not just the Pennant but the freaking World Series I was on cloud nine. For a few days. Then the universe decided to give us Trump somehow ‘winning’ the WH.
That’s my fear. We FINALLY win a statewide race in Texas and the universe turns out to just be fucking with us and finds a way to quickly let us know it played us for suckers.
As for MTG she can stir up the shit pot and wait to see how everything cooks up. Or doesn’t. She wasn’t rich before winning her House Seat but her family had a pretty good business and she was always much more well off than most of us. So, money was never a concern for her and by waiting just barely long enough for her resignation to be effective she secured that awesome Congressional pension.
Both nationally and in her home state of Georgia political tectonic plates could shift in the next two or three years. I can’t believe I’m saying this about MTG but she actually is looking pretty savvy in sounding off on (now) two issues that MAGA really, REALLY cares about (Epstein and getting into wars) but not running for anything. And if she proves prescient she might decide to sign a fat contract with Fox and make a f*kcton of money. I recall a former college coach who became the most annoying basketball announcer ever (Dick Vitale) who once got asked about going back to coaching. His response wasn’t just no, but that he was much better off on the sidelines, getting to ‘play coach’ and never losing a game and having to worry about getting fired for not winning enough big ones, AND get paid like a big time college coach.
So maybe that’s MTG’s play. If she wanted to stay involved in DC politics she’d have run for Ossoff’s seat which would be her best shot. I’m thinking if she runs for elected office again it will be for Gov of GA. For now though she is on the side she should be on by criticizing Trump over the Epstein files and even appearing with victims to advocate for them, and now this war. Yeah, it’s all weird as hell.
If there are midterms. 47 will probably declare a “national emergency” to stay in power as dictator. An extended Iran war may be his rationale.
