This is not going to be easy. With so many of these senseless shootings the perpetrator is either apprehended on the spot and thrown in irons, or ends up dead, either by his own hand or suicide by cop. Two suspects were taken into custody and both released after a very short time in connection with the murder of Charlie Kirk. The direction the criminal wind is blowing now is towards futility. The simple answers were tried and neither suspect had anything on him (or her. The first suspect was a septuagenarian male and a description of the second person of interest has not been provided.) So the clock is now ticking. And as well you know, if you are an aficionado of murder mysteries, the first 48 hours are the most crucial. This incident now has the earmarks of a very skilled assassin on the one side and the bumbling fools that run the Federal Bureau of Investigation on the other. Cue the Pink Panther music.
The Gateway Pundit is jumping the gun and publishing a false and misleading headline. Yes, I hear you say “So what else is new?” But in this case, I’m not blaming the writer of the piece or the publication. Because here’s the headline: “BREAKING: FBI Director Kash Patel Announces Charlie Kirk Assassin Is In Custoday.” Now no journalist/blogger, even conspiracy theorist worth her salt would publish that, but this gal did and I don’t blame her. I would have written the same headline.
And that’s because if Patel “announced” he got his man, then the reporter is not at fault for quoting him. The problem here is that Patel no more had Kirk’s assassin in hand today anymore than you or I had just discovered Jimmy Hoffa this afternoon. And with Patel and Bongino helming this investigation, the odds of one of us unearthing Hoffa begin to overtake the odds of those two clowns coming up with the killer. And after we’ve turned in Hoffa’s whereabouts, let’s go look for Al Capone’s vault, shall we?

I would rate the odds of Kash Patel and Oingo Boingo Bongino turning into Holmes and Watson at nil. But, then again, there are some real federal investigators on the payroll at the FBI. They haven’t all been run out. There hasn’t been time. Maybe somebody can save the day.
Frankly, I’m wondering if this isn’t Reichstag fire time, but I don’t want to dance on the cusp of conspiracy theory just yet.
This murder wasn’t committed by some halfwit with a mail-order gun who craved instant celebrity and got it by massacring helpless schoolchildren. This was a sniper who drilled his target from 200 yards away. I predict that if and when the assassin is apprehended, he will turn out to be someone with military training and experience.
And not just any military training, but sharpshooting. The 19-year-old kid who tried to kill Trump wasn’t a marksman. Whomever killed Kirk bloody well was. That was apparent the moment it happened. I thought it was a handgun at short range from the audience because the aim was so precise and clean. I was amazed that it was a 200 -yard shot.
If history has taught us anything Sonny…it’s that ANYONE can be killed. Michael Corleone’s speech to his brothers prior to killing a corrupt NYC police captain in The Godfather.

This assassin was accurate as well as willing. That’s one of the few things we can be certain of tonight. Again however I want to emphasize a point I made in an earlier article. The number of people in this country with the skill to make that shot is FAR larger than most people realize. One commenter has suggested this was someone with military training. Given the preparation seems to have been on the level of a military trained sniper (setting up with stealth and making a clean getaway) it’s not that much different than what anyone who’s hunted deer or other game with a rifle does. Pick a spot where your target is or is anticipated to be. Get into or be in a spot that allows you to stealthily get into position to make the shot. It’s the cleanness of this shooter’s getaway that might narrow the suspect pool some. However I’ve worked in conservation and authored work on hunting and hunter ethics that’s been used in training in North America for three decades now. It led me to working a fair amount with state and federal game wardens which means I know how big a problem poaching is. Poachers are usually every bit as careful about setting up to shoot and kill game out of season AND retrieve their kill – and get away cleanly.
My point is twofold – don’t assume it took a shooter with particularly awesome skills to have made that shot. Second, don’t assume it took military training and experience for the individual to have pulled it off and a dozen hours later there’s still damned near nothing to help authorities ID, much less find him or her. Damned near everyone has known someone with the skill set to have done this. Which gets me back to my original quote about it being a matter of being WILLING.
I shoot .22s once or twice a year. I have zero formal training other than just practice. I can hit the bullseye with all shots inside a quarter’s diameter at 100 yards with iron sights. Any 13-year old who took the Rifle merit badge can make the shot. Note: not saying they did but to Denis’s point, marksmanship like this is common.
The hallmark here is the getaway. To me, that’s the sign that this was an experienced shooter and hitter. Someone knew exactly what they were doing. My gut says they were waiting for a moment of irony (this was right after a school shooting comment).
If I was of a conspiratorial mind, I’d be looking at whoever asked that question of Kirk. It looks a little too convenient for me. But I’m also a cynical bastard.
While I have zero reaction to Kirk’s death, this was still murder. The assassin should be found and prosecuted. My gut says it was either a magat or an angry parent or survivor of a school shooting.
Also: the theme song is Benny Hill. Patel and Bongino are nowhere intelligent enough for Pink Panther.
I guess I’m naive about the kind of training it takes to pull something like this off. And no, the timing of it was something. I wonder if it was a bereaved parent or somebody with a point to make. But the MAGAts are out in full force, wanting to declare martial law. We had our resident MAGA here, Mark, advocate for that here yesterday in the thread of Jason’s piece announcing the shooting.

If Patel has two brain cells functioning, he’ll find the most competent agent(s) and turn the investigation over to them and stay out of it. He can peacock and take all the credit later. But that is literally the only hope of the assassin being found.
