Same psychosis, different day. The shooter didn’t act alone. No, 23-year-old Robin Westman acted in concert with 219 House members, 53 senators, the National Rifle Association, and the ding-a-ling currently in the White House. If you’re looking for a contrast in leadership syles, you can find nothing better than the difference between the day of the Sandy Hook tragedy, when a grim Barack Obama guided the nation through what was — then — the worst school shooting in our history, and the nothing burger coming out of D.C. today.

What was the *president’s* reaction? Um…well, he got the flags down to half staff. Somebody did, in any event. And he posted on Truth Social that he would pray. I’m sure you’re relieved to hear that. I wonder if the irony that all of these children, the dead, the injured, and the newly-traumatized survivors were doing just that when the bullets rang out, praying. Hey, let’s go along with the gag. Maybe this is God’s way of letting us know that action, not prayer, is what’s indicated here to solve the problem.

That’s Donald’s presidential action for today folks. He posted a meme. Now move along, nothing to see here, and besides, Donald’s busy. He needs to get out on the golf course and do what he loves best, cheating. Go bug somebody else about these inconvenient PR gaffes, which is all that he views school shootings as, he’s made that clear.

Guns are the leading cause of death for children ages 1 through 17. But the GOP won’t do anything about it and that most especially applies to Trump. He’s just hoping that these don’t happen too often, not because they’re tragic and horrific and ruin lives but because he doesn’t want to have to deal with them on a public relations level.

Once again we face the fact that mass shooters, the NRA, and their GOP enablers in congress have far more rights than your children or grandchildren have.

And we also graphically see that Trump’s troop stunt in D.C. is just that. If Trump really was hell bent on doing away with crime in all forms, today would be the perfect jumping off point for him. But he’s not and so today isn’t.

Just one more example of how the ship of state is going through the waters unhelmed, or at the very least helmed by unelected officials, Stephen Miller, Russel Vought and the like. And they don’t care about school shootings and won’t unless and until it happens to one of them. That’s a terrible thing to wish on anybody but the unfortunate truth is that for people who utterly lack empathy a personal tragedy is the only thing that awakens them to what the rest of us have been commisserating over for decades now.

  1. This hits hard. All those children. And yup, crickets. This is sad, and I’ll bet it drops out of the news in a hurry. That’s worse. People need to be reminded of these things. W. T. F.

  2. Ok, what’s your solution? Let me guess, semi auto ban? Or outright gun ban? Yeah that’ll get the bad guys to surrender their guns. That would be about as useless as gun free zones. Yet you can’t help but try to blame Trump & Republicans. This happened in the not so free state of Minnesota where the governor is rapidly being exposed as one of the worst in the nation. Minnesota has red flag laws, why didn’t his family or someone notify authorities? What kind of drugs was this deranged murderer on? Why didn’t his doctors red flag him?
Yeah, yeah, just keep blaming Republicans.

    • Look, you troll. As long as the FEDERAL level isn’t going to do anything to address the issue, it doesn’t matter what efforts are taken by individual states. And you’ve got that far-right-wing batch of morons on SCOTUS to thank for that. SCOTUS has basically overturned EVERY local-level effort to stop the “bad guys with guns” from getting hold of guns in the first place. But YOU AND YOUR ILK just cannot seem to grasp that simple concept. And the GOPers in Congress REFUSE to do anything since pretty much every single one of them is in the pockets of the NRA–which WILL run targeted campaign ads against any incumbent GOPer they see as “caving” on their extremist position. (By the by, ask yourself why the NRA itself bans certain types of guns at their conventions–even to the point of frisking and scanning people entering certain rooms so they’re not “concealed-carrying” into those events. Those are ALL supposed to be the NRA’s proverbial “good guys with guns” but the NRA, for some reason, seems to think they can’t be trusted even in the heart of their convention from potentially opening fire.) Every single time there’s been a mass shooting, the GOP’s other standard message (other than the “tots and pears” blather) is “It’s too soon. There’s too much emotion for a debate.” And, a couple of weeks later, after the outrage and “emotion” from that shooting have “settled down,” the GOP then argues there’s no need for any talk on gun legislation.

So, fork you, troll. Go back under your bridge or wherever you’ve been keeping your sorry worthless ass for the past few weeks. It’s so funny how you were silent for several weeks now and *SUDDENLY* you just seemed to come back in the last day or two. Were you deliberately not commenting till your masters paid you and you finally got your checks from your last round of trolling? I bet that’s it, isn’t it?

      • That’s funny. You think I get paid to troll you morons? I wish! You babbled something about the individual states being blocked by scotus or something? We’ll That’s not true. Up here in New York there’s plenty of draconian laws passed by full democrat legislature that prohibit lawful gun owners but do nothing to deter criminals and many states have red flag laws.
As far as what the NRA does at their events, you lefties scream about that all the time. That’s because you’re stupid. Maybe they(we) recognize the need to sometimes harden a potential target! You know, more than just a no guns allowed sign. Duh. The democrac left has blocked every effort for common sense protection of schools and other soft targets that’s been put forward by actual gun safety experts just to try to get your gun control agenda passed.
And I haven’t been away for weeks. There’s just not anything worth reading or commenting on this site.

        • See this is how we know you’re just a troll. Those “draconian” laws were ALL vacated by SCOTUS, just a couple of years ago. As being “unconstitutional restrictions” on the 2nd Amendment. What SCOTUS is allowing are for LIMITED restrictions on MILITARY grade weapons and if you really need that hardware
to hunt Bambi, well, you are NOT a sportsman much less a real hunter but rather a mass murderer wannabe.
As to the NRA situation, you didn’t even make a sensible response. It’s the NRA and the gun lobby that have CONSTANTLY criticized ANY city or state that has tried to prohibit even PRIVATE venues and places of business from blocking any kind of gun from being allowed on the premises. As for your utter NONSENSE (aka “bull crap”) about the Democrats blocking “common sense” stuff by “actual gun safety experts,” there hasn’t been any such stuff because there aren’t any such people on the NRA’S or gun lobby’s side. The NRA and gun lobby want NO gun laws or regulations AT ALL.

    • For the first half of my life (I’m late 60s) mass shooting were a rare thing. In small towns like the one I grew up in country guys who drove a truck to school still had guns in a gun rack during hunting season even. The NRA although conservative grudgingly put up with a measure of gun control. People were raised differently back then. My dad was typical and put the fear of god into me about being careless with my own (or his) shotgun. And people looked out for each other and though there were some oddballs obssessed with having a bunch of guns instead of only what they needed for hunting or home defense had everyone including LE keeping an eye on them.

Alas, as with so many things gun culture changed during the Reagan years. The NRA is often imagined to have 25-30 million members. It’s never come close. Even now. Roughly a tenth of that amount was the best they could do. However those in charge from the executives to the board had expensive desires and an unholy alliance was begun with manufacturers in seach of greater profits to push gun sales beyond all reason. Especially “cool” guns like military style assault weapons and pistols that had many more rounds than the venerable M-1911 .46 which could only hold seven.

By the 1990s the ILA part of the NRA took over the whole shebang and we saw a combination of two things. Firs, a massive profliferation of gun sales (especially semi-auto versions of the military’s M16 or the Soviet AK and pistols with ‘double stack’ magazines that allowed a handgun to have 13 and in some cases more rounds with an extended (below the butt of the grip) doubling the capacity (or nearly so) of the old-school .45. We also saw a steady rise in the number of mass shootings that has accelerated as more and more gun laws were overturned in the courts thanks to an increasingly conservative collection of GOP appointees gaining control.

The thing is, gun control existed not only when the Constitution (and therefore the second amendment) was ratified it continued! That part about ‘A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state’ precursor to the part folks like cite as if the “state” has no ability to regulate guns.

I could write pages of history about times back two hundred or more years ago and gun ownership and regulation but I’d probably waste more time than I likely already have explaining what I have to the likes of you. I’ll say this: Rights come with RESPONSIBILITIES and a device like a gun that in the wrong hands can kill eight or ten people in just a few seconds aren’t responsible enough to own guns!

    • OK,there Mark— I WILL just keep blaming Repubs… that is what Trump does every time: blame fake news and Biden

Trump and the American Nazi Party,(your party trollski mark), have no hearts…their prayers have been answered…by their evil master. Just check their bank accounts.

  4. The leading cause of DEATH for children in The USA is by gunshot.

This is the only country in the world where this is so.

Even countries at war like Ukraine and Yemen or Haiti can’t claim this.

How was this allowed to happen in a country where children are claimed to be so important?
