Newsom’s Trump Turnabout Formula Is Working Beautifully, MAGA’s Lit

The MAGAs can dish it out but man, they sure cannot take it. I think that Gavin Newsom has hit upon a winning formula this time. Full disclosure: he freaked me out when he started platforming the likes of Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk on his podcast. I found that cringeworthy and self destructive on his part. Anything that anybody on the left (or the center, for that matter, if such a thing still exists) does that normalizes the right-wing freak show is a mistake. So opening the tent to them I felt was a massive error. In this case, we are all far far better with people like Bannon and Kirk outside the tent pissing in than inside the tent pissing out.

And I was not alone in that assessment. A lot of people on the left, Ron Filipkowski, to name one, had the same take on Newsom’s seeming courtship of (and possibily capitulation to) the worst of the right-wing slugs. And maybe all he was trying to do then was fight fire with fire. It didn’t play that way. It played out as him commiting political seppuku. But what Newsom is doing now is spot on the money. He has mastered Trump’s idiotic third grade mean kid mentality, all-caps tantrum style and it is hilarious.

And the MAGAs can’t handle it. The reason they can’t handle it is because when Trump does it, it’s original, it’s Trump going where no politician has gone before. And they all imitate Trump’s juvenile pugilistic style. Take that style away from Lauren Boebert or Marge Greene and they might as well have lockjaw. They have nothing to say.

So Newsom has hit on a winning formula here and he’s just getting rolling. Trump is also getting rolling — downhill and into senility and infirmity. And both these maneuvers are happening simultaneously.

This is just one of Newsom’s masterpieces and my prediction is that by the time 2026 comes around that every Democratic candidate up and down the slate will be talking this way. At least they should! If nothing else, on one day of every week, every single candidate should do his or her best imitation of Trump’s social media style. Maybe prizes can be given. Because the way to defuse Trump is to give him a good dose of himself.

That’s the gag. When anybody else does it, they sound batshit. That’s the essence of The Cult. Only when Trump does it, is it wonderful. And here’s another essence of The Cult: Nobody else in the cult can literally do this except Trump. They all try to do another angle of Trump. J.D. Vance is attempting to be the Smart Trump, and package Trump’s excesses as sensible doctrine, with a Yale Law sanewash. Vance isn’t getting that far in his quest. He’s the straight man sidekick. He’s not a co-star and he’s not going to replace the Mango Messiah when Mother Nature finally brings down the closing curtain on the MAGA main act, as she will sooner rather than later.

Ron DeSantis knows he doesn’t have a prayer of imitating Trump. DeSantis showed that he was a washout when he attempted to portray himself as homo sapiens from the Planet Earth during the Republican primary. DeSantis does not have the common touch. He is not presidential material. The only question is whether he knows it. Which brings us to a happy juncture here.

The happy juncture is that Fox News can trash Newsom all they want to and all it does is shine a spotlight on him and then he gets on social media and does his Trumpian riffs and he’s winning. Remember Mark Twain’s comment?

“The human race in all its poverty has only one truly effective weapon laughter. Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand. Power, money, persuasion, supplication, persecution—these can lift a colossal humbug, push it a little, weaken it a little; but only laughter can blow it to rags and atoms at a blast”. 

Money, power and the persuasion of television has lifted the most colossal humbug in human form that ever lived and put him into the Oval Office. Twice. Everything that comes out of Trump’s mouth is sheer humbug. And laughter can and is blowing Humbug Trump to atoms.

And Trump is doing it to himself. That is the beauty of this. He is sounding stupider by the day. Just listen to this short clip, particularly the part where he purses his lips and lisps “World War Toooo.”

Do you believe that? This is what the world watches, ladies and gentlemen. This is the face of our nation right now. Covered in egg. Rotten egg.

But Newsom has found an effective way to fight Trump. And it’s not a minute too soon.

Those are our marching orders. We can win this war. Failure is not an option. And the beauty of what Newsom is doing is that Trump is playing totally into his hands. Day by day Trump gets further debilitated, weaker physically and mentally. All we need to do is stand around with mirrors.

Mockery will do for us what dire prediction didn’t. In 2024 we were all serious as a heart attack, predicting that if Trump got elected again it would be so much worse than the first time. Medicaid would be gone. Immigrants would be demonized, tortured, imprisoned. Troops would be in the streets. Political vengeance would be wrought. Kash Patel would head the FBI. We predicted all of this and it has all either come to pass already or is in the process of coming to pass.

Our dire predictions were characterized as Trump Derangement Syndrome. So to hell with dire predictions because clearly they didn’t work. Newsom has a new angle, laugh at the crazy *%@#$^, hold a mirror up to his bent and twisted nature, show him for the moral rot on sore-laden, swollen legs, bedecked with catheters and braces that he is. That is working.

And it will continue to work better by the day because when all is said and done, Donald Trump’s worse enemy is Donald Trump. And he is on the way down and out.
