Steve Bannon is one of the most gruesome players in Trump’s orbit. But even given this reality – and it is reality – Bannon remains a good source on all things Trump. Despite Bannon no longer being officially “in” the Trump administration, he surely maintains many contacts and even had lunch with Trump this week. Bannon has news; what he calls a “party” is on. The bombing starts soon. From a report in JoeMyGod:
“I’m just reporting what I’m hearing from pretty good sources. The party is on. So another big weekend in this unfolding aspect of the Third World War, and no, anyone that’s telling you that the Third World War is not here, is absolutely, does not understand the development and evolution of kinetic energy.”
Wrong. Some of us can easily define kinetic energy, but are utterly mystified as to how it can be justified against Iran. It simply cannot. We have more background from ABC News:
By the time President Donald Trump and MAGA podcaster Steve Bannon sat down for lunch on Thursday, the president had already approved a plan on how the U.S. might attack an Iranian nuclear facility.
Sources say he arrived at the White House for his previously scheduled lunch with Trump armed with specific talking points: Israeli intelligence can’t be trusted, he planned to say, and the bunker-buster bomb might not work as planned.
If Bannon has better intelligence than the president, then we’re all fukt.
The precise risk to the U.S. troops in the Middle East, particularly the 2,500 in Iraq, also wasn’t clear if Iran retaliated, he would add. A White House official insists that by the time Trump sat down with Bannon for lunch the president had already made a decision to hold off on a strike against Iran.
If Trump were smart, he would plant this story on Bannon, feigning seriousness, in an attempt to get the Ayatollah to back down. As it is, I believe that Trump is stupid enough to leak very specific plans to Bannon. Have we ever heard of Trump using casual acquaintances for anything but an opportunity to try to impress them?
Thus it is that we are likely about to bomb Iran with all too kinetic weapons. At best, it would be to simply supplement what Israel has already done – perhaps using some of those “bunker busters” that do work, or we wouldn’t have them. At worst, we are getting ourselves into another long campaign. Iran will never put troops on American ground, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try it with Israel, and that would surely draw American service members into the fight. Either way, we can expect the only type of warfare that a lesser can fight against a superpower – asymmetric. Terrorism.
If Trump wants to see his ratings plummet, just have one American plane shot down or have a terrorist attack occur on American soil. Just the thought of another run of the mill mass shooting would scare the sh*t out of the American public. None of it touches either the poor innocent Iranians – those not building a nuclear bomb – and innocent Israelis, doing nothing but staring at the clouds, hoping bombs don’t come toward them.
It certainly won’t be a party.
