If we had an honest media (read: “not terrified of Mad King Donald”) this would be getting a lot more press. Also, it’s another example of IOIYAR, which is “it’s okay if you’re a Republican.” Had this scene taken place between Sir Keir Starmer and Joe Biden, the Bezos Bugle and other outlets would be printing extra editions. Fox News execs would be tripping on all the pearls on the floor released by a clutching frenzy and falling onto fainting couches in a dead stupor.
Yo i thought ppl saying Trump couldn't read was just a joke. Bro is actually illiterate. pic.twitter.com/HYugjsjQj7

This was a misfire Starmer wasn’t counting on. He meant his gesture in good faith, let Trump read a letter from the king and share that with his people. It was a tasteful gesture if only the person on the receiving end was literate. Now in all fairness, maybe he can’t see normal sized type. Then why doesn’t he carry reading glasses as people do, if they don’t already wear contacts or prescription lenses?
No, Trump doesn’t read. He is spoon fed large images of simple words on a teleprompter. That much he can manage — until he can’t manage it and then he goes off script and disaster ensue. I can’t wait to see what his State Of The Onion address is like tonight.
He could make it very simple: “Folks, for the first time in history, America is being taken over from within by a drug addled South African and an insane Russian dictator. Drug dealers are now selling eggs out of the back of their car because the profit margin is so good and California is going to have a problem with its crops this summer because of my photo op of releasing millions of gallons of water that the farmers now need and don’t have.”
The state of our union is compromised and that is putting it charitably.

Do you REALLY need to ask this question? It’s obvious.

If Drumpf sported reading glasses, it would imply that he’s less than the perfect specimen of maleness. (Not that his voice is exactly what one expects of a “strong” man.)
I don’t question for one minute that you’re right. But, OTOH, there is a certain statesmanlike air if one takes out reading glasses. It makes you Winston Churchill for a moment. But I guess Trump can’t think that far.
You notice that when a staffer hands him an Executive Order to scrawl his “signature” on, they first have to read it to him. They could hand him anything, tell him something else, and he’d scribble away happily.
I wonder how many times they have already done that.
