I say this only partially in jest, that the charismatic cult leader may have been in a bad mood because he was wearing his special occasion shoes. Donald Trump wears shoe lifts. And he certainly wanted to wear the really high shoe lifts when Volodomyr Zelensky hit town, because he wanted to be able to tower over Zelensky. This is vintage Trump, tower over the other man and then do a bizarre ritual *power* handshake.
Zelensky is 5’7″ tall. Trump, in reality, is about 5’9″ or 5’10” maximum. But that’s not enough of an *advantage* (and this is how Trump thinks, a man’s height, his bank account, these things are the measure of a man in his eyes) so Trump has to exaggerate the situation with shoe lifts.

There’s Trump with another way of seeming taller. Or, there’s an alternate theory, that the pads keep him from leaning forward like the Tower of Pisa. It’s amazing he hasn’t fallen on his ass yet, I keep waiting for the day.
The shoe lifts are uncomfortable. Trump frequently takes them off at rallies. You may remember the Butler, Pennsylvania rally where the sniper shot at him. Trump asked the Secret Service, “My shoes, where are my shoes?” as they led him away.
What’s comical is that Melania also lies about her height. The internet says she’s 5’11”. Not barefoot she’s not. No way in hell. She wears 5-inch stilettos, which would make her be 6’4″ and taller than Trump. No way! She’s 5’6″ or so and becomes 5’11” with heels. She and Trump are the same height when together, which buttresses my theory that he’s 5’9″ or 5’10”.
He wears his three inch shoe lifts for special occasions because he thinks being taller than some of the leaders he engages with somehow makes him the better, more imposing figure. The shoe lifts, floofy combover and that gawdawful makeup do not make him an imposing figure. They make him a bizarre cartoonish figure. But he apparently thinks he looks viral and masculine with all this artifice.
Trump’s a laughingstock and on his watch the entire country is a laughingstock. I am grateful that many people abroad see this situation for what it is, namely that Trump squeaked by with 1.5% in a tight and acrimonious race and that fully half of the country despises him.
This is what the rest of the world looks at, laughs, and shakes their collective head at. Only to MAGA is this man credible. What a fool believes, they see.

Can’t believe this constitutes a story over here, Trump’s shoes, really? I watched the oval office meeting & Zelensky got what he deserved. He WILL be back humbly accepting whatever deal our President offers and he’ll be lucky if it’s offered again. I can’t believe the American left is so willing to send billions of our taxpayer dollars overseas in perpetuity to fund that losing effort.

Once you grasp the Marshall Plan and understand how it has kept the peace for 80 years, you’ll be tuned into the reality of Ukaine — at least minimally. You people who are Trump voters listen to the propaganda out there. That is the fault of Ronald Reagan. He got rid of the Fairness In Broadcasting Doctrine. That’s the ONLY reason right-wing media can exist in its current form.
Get a freaking education before you sanctimoniously intone your ignorant views. And yes, we poke fun at Trump because a little levity makes the bitter reality of him in the White House slightly more bearable.
This one only watches Faux Noise. The very concept of the Fairness Doctrine would appall him.

The first words out of Zelensky’s mouth were words of gratitude. What he didn’t do is praise Donnie Boy to the skies,,declaring him.brilliant and wise,,and sing the Hallellujah Chorus while proclaiming him the Second Coming. I watched it too. Trump was determined not to give more aid because Vlad told him.not too. And those mineral.rights are likely the reason Putin wants Ukraine as part of Russia–that and the fact that Ukraine was the former Soviet Union’s breadbasket. I wonder if Muscovites are standing in food and bread lines again as they did before Gorbachov. I wouldn’t be surprised. Russia isn’t in great economic shape,,and Putin is drafting men for the Army. I suspect that if you have two legs and two arms and can walk two.blocks without passing out, you’re drafted. When it became clear conscription was on its way, young men were sneaking over the border to any place that would have them.
