Once again Elon Musk has proven that he doens’t belong in politics. He’s woefully out of his depth. The key attribute to being in politics is that you need to have a thick skin and don’t dish out at a level that you can’t take. And definitely don’t lie so transparently that you can get caught out in it in a minute’s time. Musk never learned those lessons apparently. Here’s the latest hole he dug for himself and jumped right in.

Musk went ballistics. And it did not need to be this way at all. The astronaut, and others, said weeks ago that nobody was stranded in space but Musk had to persist in spreading this fable. That’s why he got called out so blatantly. And he reacted like a 10-year-old and insulted the astronaut the way 10-year-olds do.
Elon, I have long admired you and what you have accomplished, especially at SpaceX and Tesla.

The tweet ends, “They are returning on the Dragon capsule that has been on ISS since last September.” Again, common knowledge. But what happened here is that Musk saw an opportunity to make himself the hero of a story and so he took a page from Trump’s “Sir” playbook and made up this fantasy. That was bad enough. But then to call an astronaut “fully retarded” for merely setting the facts straight? OMFG
But this is the state of our government right now. This is a complete horror show. Another rule of politics which Musk would know, if this was an area in which he had expertise, is that you don’t unnecessarily slander other high profile people because the world at the top is fairly small. There’s no need to publicly trash a key scientist, an astronaut, economist, what have you, but again, in MAGA world behaving like a schoolyard bully is the norm of the day. And nobody gets respect from MAGA. MAGA is the wrecking ball.
Expect it to get a lot worse before it gets better. Spectacle is the order of the day in Trump 2.0. Spectacle and rich people acting crass. And we’ve got three years, eleven months more of this.
