There has never been any doubt that right-wing organizations like Turning Point USA and CPAC are money-making for-profit functions to the core, far more so than actual political organizations pushing for change – though, they’re certainly that, too, and entry level requirements for aspiring Republican politicians, but none of these realities is mutually exclusive with being a cash cow in every way. Thus it is that these organizations – the NRA set the gold standard – will do whatever it takes to get people to their conventions and also expand their footprint or “product” if you will. There used to be just the “CPAC Convention” – now it feels like there is a “CPAC St. Louis” on the calendar as no city is left behind. So getting their voters out is critical and what better means to get people to attend than sex? We always knew Turning Point was basically a centralized frat party. But now CPAC wants you to know that things get hot, hun.

Leave it to Mercedes Schlapp – who, really, should be more focused on the fact that her husband continues to get slapped with lawsuits over sexual harassment claims by young men, her issue with sex hits closer to home and is intolerable. We don’t care if her husband is gay, we care that he’s abusing people. So it’s best to take this with her deep cynicism in mind as she must know the truth. Perhaps she is doing quite well on the scene at the meet-ups. Perhaps that’s mean. But her recent quote says it all:

“We are gonna be talking about – from woke capitalism to the culture warriors – to there’s some really fun panel names. One of them actually mentions Joy Reid, where it’s basically this fight against this Trump derangement syndrome, media narrative of their goal to destroy the president, destroy MAGA supporters.”

Timeout here momentarily before we get to the door slammer. They hate Joy Reid for one reason only, she talks about race relations as an unapologetic black woman who is not happy about how Black Americans are treated in even this supposedly more enlightened age. CPAC and other Right-wing entities, while not inherently racist (Wait until they do something to prove it, please – don’t assume), are constantly afraid of addressing the racism that does exist and that which does exist resides almost exclusively on the Right side. They hate any discussion, much more happy to go about their way, which is doing what they want and not having to hear about it from an angry woman like Reid – who, again, is extremely perceptive and isn’t going to apologize. Intolerable. Onward:

“The young voters were such a decisive factor in this past election, and they swayed in favor of President Trump. It was truly amazing. I’ve seen people who have decided that they’re gonna run for office or get involved in their local elections or state elections.

“I’ve seen so many people who are single who then end up finding the love of their life at CPAC. So I’m like, okay, if you don’t find them at church, you might find them at CPAC.

And I will bet there are plenty of people that are not single but manage to do quite well when out at CPAC. There is something about meeting other adults “out of town” that somewhat obviates what are otherwise “the rules of life” and lead to those things notoriously associated with “conventions” and other events at which folks are, well – “out” and away. I am sure there are plenty of hook-ups by single and not so single folks, sometimes crossing that breakdown.

The weird thing is that they feel the need to start coming out and advertising it. Yes, yes, she said “relationships” but that’s sort of the next step down the road. When people hear that quote, they think “getting together” with someone and seeing what happens. But nothing happens unless you are there and that’s what CPAC really wants. They want you there because it is first and foremost a money operation.

Amazing that – being a cash register – that it’s taken them this long to really get into the connotation game. It is hot. Maybe try being a liberal there, daring and dangerous for them. Probably not. But it would be awfully satisfying to get some to think on a new level. There might well be the opportunity. Just don’t mention it right up front.

Friends, donations have dried up this week and we haven’t gotten any new subscribers. If you’ve already helped, thank you so very much. If you can help a bit, it would be appreciated. We are in a slough of despair with the generalized Democratic depression on top of Q1 revenue rates being the lowest of all year. Thank you. Ursula

  1. Well, let’s start with a good dose of this:

As for the attendees screwing what consenting adults want to do behind closed doors isn’t my business. Except when these conservatives who boink each other at these gatherings (and as you say not all are single and/or not in relationships) go bleating about morality and how superior they are on that front. ‘Family Values’ and cracks about especially non-whites ‘mating like rabbits’ – you all get what I’m talking about. Then their pronouncements, their JUDGEMENTS and CONDEMNATION of ‘liberals’ makes this kind of talk about CPAC fair game.

Personally I’d rather just hook up an IV to the Brain Bleach. I recall George Carlin walking out to start a special and the first line he spoke was “Have you ever noticed woman who’s against abortion is someone you wouldn’t want to fuck anyway?” I laughed my ass off at that one. Not that there aren’t some conservative women that are nice to look at, or even “hot” but if they speak every bit of that goes away. At least for me. And some are so ugly on the inside that even though they have nice features/builds they just seem ugly. I’m sure women would say the same about the guys.

Not very smart talking this up. A lot of sleazy types might decide to roam the halls with eyeglass cameras linked to recording devices in their pockets. Catching married folks (with their nametags on) canoodling down the hallways and disappearing into a room, already tearing at each other’s clothes. Blackmail. Or they might decide to just publish it online. Hell, it could be its own YouTube channel!

The best part is of course that unwanted pregnancies will happen. And at least some of them will result in abortion! I’ll leave my speculation at that except to add that someone dedicated might keep tabs on some of what happens in the weeks and months AFTER the trysts.

    brain bleach

    • Of course, there are probably a lot fewer unwanted pregnancies than one might typically expect since there’s been anecdotal evidence (I know–it’s not strict scientific analysis but the stories are out there) of how every single GOP national convention has seen MASSIVE upswings in the number of “hookups” (paid AND unpaid, straight and FAR MORE gay) since the sex work industry has been paying attention this century. And both Grindr and Tinder and other “hookup” apps have shown remarkably higher numbers in the GOP convention cities than those cities have before or after the week of the convention (and when they’ve compared numbers in DNC host cities, there’s far less of a change in numbers from before or after compared to the week of the convention).

I’m guessing that the majority of “conservative” men hooking up at the RNC are going to female prostitutes (who are generally going to be using some sort of contraceptives–or engaging in sexual activities that don’t have a chance of resulting in pregnancy) or hooking up with men (last I checked, guys have a much harder time getting pregnant). And I wouldn’t expect the results to be any different no matter WHAT “conservative” conventions may be attended.

  2. “CPAC and other Right-wing entities, while not inherently racist (Wait until they do something to prove it, please – don’t assume), are constantly afraid of addressing the racism that does exist and that which does exist resides almost exclusively on the Right side.”

Um, wouldn’t the very fact that they are “constantly afraid of addressing the racism that does exist and that which does exist resides almost exclusively on the Right side” actually BE the very example of “prove it, please” you wanted?
