Liz Cheney still bugs the hell out of conservatives. She was as staunch a conservative as one could find for her life, and even voted again and again for Trump’s policies when it came to cutting taxes on the rich. Whatever personal disgust Cheney had for Trump she set aside. For years. However Cheney was also raised to believe in the system. Trump as we know crossed what for her was an unforgivable line and unlike almost all her Republican colleagues on Capitol Hill standing up to Trump was more important to her than her Congressional Seat. I’m sure she’d have felt and done the same had she been a Senator. Trump and the GOP want to “get” Liz Cheney and will use any excuse to take a shot. Elon Musk is on the warpath against USAID and couldn’t resist taking a swing at Cheney over it. The dumbass Musk seems to have forgotten Liz Cheney is very, very good at punching back!
As Newsweek tells us a bit of an exchange has taken place, and from where I sit the GOP can try (and they do) to spin it all they want but Cheney came out smelling like a rose. Musk reeks of the smell of the big slimy fish Cheney smacked him across his smug face with. Musk decided to make an issue of Cheney’s history with USAID. The agency was established back in 1961 and has a solid history of accomplishments that have benefited a lot of countries and advance U.S. interests in the process. They’ve tackled epidemics (I have a cousin who while I was on active duty had to be sent home from Chad because he too got sick), battled food insecurities, funded education and sometimes even played a key role in foreign policy. So yeah, they’ve done an awful lot of good and for not all that much money in the grand scheme of things. I can’t help but wonder if so much of their work has been in Africa that’s why Musk really seems to have it in for her. I’ll get to that.
What I’ll focus on is that Musk decided to pick a fight with Cheney:
Earlier Wednesday, Musk reposted a comment from Mike Benz, the executive director for the Foundation For Freedom Online, speaking on Cheney’s history with the USAID saying, “Liz Cheney, who led Trump’s impeachment and the mass imprisonment campaign against thousands of Trump supporters, was spawned out of USAID.”
Trying to be clever, or mean or whatever Musk reposted Benz’ little thingy with his own one word tag of “Interesting.”
Cheney it seems got wind of it and wasted no time putting Elon in his place:
“Damn right, @Elon. I’m proud of what America did to win the Cold War, defeat Soviet communism, and defend democracy. Our nation stood for freedom. You may be unfamiliar with that part of our history since you weren’t yet an American citizen.”
Ouch! Too many, and not just conservatives ‘back-burner’ the fact Musk was born and raised in APARTHEID South Africa. He came from a wealthy family that held great interest in keep the Apartheid system in place and fought to preserve it in the face of steadily mounting international pressure. It took decades but in the late 1980s the handwriting was on the wall that change would be a coming so Musk and relatives moved to Canada. Before moving to the U.S. After some years here Elon decided to become a Naturalized Citizen.
However I believe at heart he’s steeped in racist, Apartheid thinking and in the U.S. it’s WHITE people in the majority. And an awful lot of those white people would love having us go back to a time and system where it was white rule. White males. Like black people women were legal chattel, and even those from other countries brought in to do manual work were treated as such. Musk wants the norms as they’ve developed, at least until Trump destroyed. Conservatives in this country have never gotten over losing the Civil War.
After the Civil and Voting Rights Acts were signed the migration from the Democratic Party which was already underway sped up. Affirmative action and women’s right sped it up even more. Liz Cheney comes from “GOP Royalty”, or at least what used to be (even her dad went on the record saying he’d vote for Harris!) and that’s something that just drives Musk and others insane. A white hard-core conservative, and worse a woman with her history telling Trump and those who have propped him up whether out of support for him or fear of him they are full of sh*t.
I don’t doubt for a second that Musk is smart. He does after all have an engineering background although like Steve Jobs it’s the people he’s hired that have come up with the real genius work he’s been able to front. However like Trumpty he doesn’t do his homework or think things through. He could have left this alone and simply sent his “are they even old enough to buy a beer’ crew loose destroying USAID along with other stuff. But he just couldn’t resist getting in on the ‘bash Liz Cheney’ action. And now he’s got (expensive) egg dripping down from his entire head!

In case you failed to notice, the Democrats are IN THE MINORITY. In our system of government, there is very little the minority can actually do to “fight.” Sure, the Senate has the option of a filibuster but it’s limited in its actual application (and, unfortunately, when the Senate meets to set up its rules for Senate operations for the new Congress, the rules are ultimately decided by the MAJORITY). But, there’s nothing similar in the House. So, sure, the Democrats can get up in their opportunities to speak before their chambers or in their committees but, being in the majority, that’s all they can do, “speak.”
And our “liberal” media has really spent the past 30-35 years just ignoring Democrats in Congress when the Party’s in the minority and attacking Democratic Presidents while giving all sorts of screen time to Congressional GOPers whether in the minority OR in the majority (and we’ve all seen in the past decade how they roll over for Trump) so how can Democrats get out their messages to the public when the media won’t cover them? (And usually when Democrats do get some news coverage, the media feels a “need” to both-sides the coverage by having a GOPer at the same time, typically there to rebut, refute or just oppose whatever the Democrat is saying.) And social media? With Musk in charge of the platform formerly known as Twitter and Zuckerberg happily sucking Donald’s whatever body part you want to choose, Democrats won’t be able to get any kind of strong message out.
So. Are you suggesting that Democrats start the kind of insurrection against Trump, following in the mold of January 6? Well, that’d be just fantastic: Donald would then have every excuse to have his Congressional lackeys revoke the Democrats’ credentials and strip them of committee assignments.
So, again. WHAT PRACTICAL SUGGESTIONS do you have for Democrats to “fight like it’s all or nothing?”
