You may recall yesterday that one of Trump’s appointees to the Department of Justice said that it was necessary to have “competent white men” in charge of things. When you read that I’m sure you thought, “this is going to blow sky high” as I did. Well, Mt. Vesuvius has come in the form of Rep. Jasmine Crockett. And her words will inspire an even greater explosion. So nice to have a president in office who believes in unity, ain’t it?
Crockett: I am tired of the white tears. Listen, if you are competent, you are not concerned. When you look and you compare me to Marjorie Taylor Greene or me to Lauren Boebert, there is no comparison. And that is the life that we have always lived. So the only people that are… pic.twitter.com/q2ckRkqtkn

The right complains about DEI because DEI sounds better than the N-word. That’s about it. The truth of the matter is that DEI encourages people to apply but it doesn’t “give” them anything. In law school, for example, the exams are anonymously coded. So a professor won’t know whose exam they’re grading. Point being, you might get into law school, or med school, you name it, but you are emphatically not going to graduate unless you can cut the mustard.
Crockett cut the mustard in law school. The law school I went to was primarily a night school, “opportunity” school designed by Martin Luther King and Bernard Jefferson. Jefferson was a Black man and a Harvard graduate. He went to Harvard in the 30’s. He was the first Black to be admitted to the California bar. He was a friend of Dr. King and he got together with two school teachers in Culver City and founded the University of West Los Angeles in the 60’s, when Tom Bradley was Mayor of Los Angeles.
It was a good school when I went there. Justice Jefferson died and the people who took over were incompetent and ran the school into the ground. So now it’s barely on life support, but in its day it provided a good education and 12 graduates ended up being elevated to the bench. Not bad at all for a mom and pop night school, who educated people who worked as postal workers, grocery clerks, legal secretaries, what have you, during the day.
Admission was easy because it was an opportunity school. But those who didn’t cut the mustard got dropped. Out of 209 people who entered in my class, thirteen of us graduated. So you get my point, you can either do it or you can’t.
But medicore white boys, or mediocrity of any shade or gender, want to excuse their mediocrity by saying that women and minorities have “unfair advantage.”
I also remember when I started out in radio during the age of Affirmative Action. I was one of the first dozen women on the air in the Denver market in the late 70’s. I was a good newscaster and talk show host, I say in all modesty. I had the respect of my peers, some of whom were pros who had been in broadcasting for decades.
So yes, Affirmative Action and DEI opened the door for a lot of people but if you can’t cut it once you’re through the door, then you wash out. And that’s what a lot of right-wingers don’t want to look at.
And they don’t want to look at white privilege. Louis Gohmert, who held the title Dumbest Man (or woman) In Congress for many years used to be a judge. In any rational world somebody like Gohmert would not have been a judge or a congressman, for that matter.
And Crockett is right about Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert. They are performance artists who rode in on Trump’s coattails. I will give Greene credit for having a college degree as opposed to high school dropout Boebert.
Crockett’s going to get lambasted for this level of candor. But she knows that and she’s tough. The comments beneath this post on Twit/X are not worth posting. Elon Musk has tweaked the algorithm to where the right-wing extremists show up and it’s a hate fest in that thread. Very few left voices in it.
We live in an age of propaganda and open racism. I hope we get through this. I personally haven’t seen this level of open racial animus (not to mention misogyny) since the 1960’s. As they say, the more things change, the more they are the same.

I’m hoping all colleges and universities are free should we ever get a powerful and serious president kind of like Kennedy but even stronger. damn Congress.
I suspect the white boys are just mad they can’t drag her into the back room for fun and games like great granddaddy could do to the pretty slaves he owned. Hell…even the ‘great’ founder Jefferson kept a pretty slave concubine hidden at Monticello who bore him half a dozen children. He didn’t even grant her freedom in his will. Liars and rapists from the 1700s to the present. She’d make a great president. You go girl!!!!!
The privileged, dull White boy who failed upward his entire life said he was sure the D.C. plane crash was because of DEI. A reporter asked him why he had come to that conclusion, and he said “Because I have common sense.” No, Sparky, it’s because you’re racist AF.
Someone who worked on “The Apprentice” for years is rumored to have this dull White boy on tape using the “N” word. Repeatedly. Now would be a reeeeeeeeeeeally good time to distribute those recordings.
