Donald must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. He got on Truth Social and began to rave. Now I know you’re yawning and saying, “This is news?” No, because we’re numb to this idiocy. It has a certain shock effect back in 2016 but since then we’ve all grown layers of scar tissue. But take a 10,000 foot view of this. Pretend for a moment that you don’t know anything about Trump and just look at this mad tweet as if you were a fresh mind coming onto this for the first time. This is sheer insanity from anybody but from an American president, it is indescribable.

And a few minutes later this post showed up. He really believes he can grind the Canadians into becoming an American state.

There is no scenario where Canada is going to become an American state. Period. Full stop. End of discussion.

But why does he *think* this way? My best speculation is that he’s gotten so full of himself since the reelection that he believes he can do anything. He believes he is omniscient. And in all truth, I can’t say as how I blame him. If I had been a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, who started an insurrection on January 6 and got people killed — but STILL got elected again — I would probably have delusions of omniscience, too.

  1. The ONE thing that Trump could do that would actually endear him to the 50.8% of the people who voted against him would be to issue an “executive order” forcing all those American corporations that “went overseas” (mainly to avoid paying decent–even if less than living–wages to American workers in the first place) to return ALL their operations to American soil (and none of that “American off-shoring to the Northern Marianas” garbage–not that the Northern Marianas has enough physical space nor workforce to accept all those operations) or face a 90% tax penalty on ALL their profits until they return, and maybe call for an audit of their taxes for the past decade or so with the purpose of making them pay a 75-100% rate on all their earnings and THEN prohibit any of them from increasing the prices they charge consumers to cover those taxes or face a minimum tax rate of 70% for the next 25 years or so if caught “passing the cost.”

    Of course, Trump would never do that because he’s not going to piss off the oligarchs who enabled his return to office. (On the other hand, if one of his little toadies should happen to point out his approval ratings would jump to at least 75%, he might would do it. But, I think Trump knows he’d rather enjoy the money–I mean, kickbacks–he’ll get by helping the oligarchs over being approved by a *real* majority of Americans; it’s far easier to imagine the public loves you and be rich-ish than to accept the public hates you and be broke.)

  2. “This is sheer insanity from anybody but from an American president, it is indescribable.”

    Actually Trump’s mental state is not indescribable — in fact, Ursula uses the precisely correct label for it in this very sentence. Trump is not merely ignorant, cruel, bigoted, narcissistic or sociopathic: he is, in fact, INSANE. It’s time we started using that word more widely. Every time the word “Trump” appears in any commentary, it should be incorporated in the phrase “insane President Trump.” Thanks to the electoral college, the U.S voting public has installed in the White House the first ever insane President of the United States. Period.

    • My opinion exactly. I’ve said this over and over: tRump needs to be court committed to a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane. Once a criminal goes to one of those hospitals, the chances of him ever getting out are almost nonexistent. No more Teflon Don. Just Crazy Don Can’t Come Out To Play. Boo Hoo.

  3. Keep your pants on “Canadian resident.” No President in any country has the authority to legally acquire another country against its will. Yes, some countries still try to play the imperialist game under the spurious assertion of self-defense from threats to its boarders (i.e. Russia invading Ukraine). This, in no way means that even the most powerful country in the world would succeed in attempting to do so. It’s a different world and I doubt a single country would stand idly by. The U.S. in all its power does not exist in a vacuum whether anyone accepts it or not, and cannot maintain its position without the support of its current allies.

    To the writer, I think you meant to say “omnipotent” and not “omniscious.” Trump believing “he can do anything” does not follow “all knowing” but does with “all powerful.”

    He won’t even be able to impose his tariffs without severely hurting the American consumers as well as industry across several sectors. The American public has become quite upset and frustrated with inflation and his moronic supporters believed his promise to tackle inflation on day one. How patient do you think they will be as prices go up on all commodities and everything else affected by the futures market which will probably react as early as Monday?

    Backlash will be swift and inexorable.

    • have you somehow failed to notice that HE DOES NOT CARE who or what he hurts? And are you really saying a world war with us in the role of Nazi Germany would be a survivable thing?
      Mad Emperor Donnie is absolutely capable of ordering a military attack on Canada. Or Panama. Or Greenland. Or all three. He dreams of empire. He also has no clue of the consequences of using nukes.

  4. I rememver thatToyota was planning to build a plant in AL. Two.things stopped that plan:
    (1) the high cost of benefits like health insurance, unlike Canada where healthcare is free;
    2) workers who were capable of reading technical.manuals and follow the directions; IKEA directions were above their reading level.

  5. I remember years ago that Toyota wanted to build a plant in AL. Two things that caused them to build in Canada:

    (1) The high cost of benefits here, like healthcare. Canada has nations healthcare;
    (2)The sad state of American education. They were interviewing potential plant workers and found that very few could actually read the manuals and follow them. The level.of reading of many potential employees was around the 4 th grade,,and even those heavily illustrated manuals were too difficult for them. I suspect IKEA directions are too hard.

    Trump picked a fight he cannot win, but can definitely lose.

  6. I don’t believe that Trump is trying to muscle Canada into statehood. I think he wants to make Canada a colony and possibly even a penal colony, where he dump all of our unwanted immigrants, misfits and Democrats. Eh?

    • I agree with Fernando about the Bronzed Bozo not really trying to muscle Canada into statehood, which would actually comprise at least 10, or as many as 13 additional states, but I disagree with his feeling that our knucklehead-in-chiefwants to make it a colony of any kind, penal or otherwise. I see this brouhaha as just another of his manufactured controversies to distract not only the MAGA cult members, but the general public from the facts of his abject failure to deliver on his campaign promises (And boy-oh-boy, are we ever distracted!!!).

      • And keep us arguing about him while Elon robs the US Treasury blind. The billionaire coup is in progress and they. don’t even need Trymp to legitimize it anymore.

  7. Canada is exploring EU membership. It already has a free trade agreement with the EU, and as a multicultural parliamentary democracy it may be a good fit.

    Who was it said, “It takes years for momentum for change to build, but when it does happen, it happens quickly.”

    We have trump to thank for shaking us out of our complacency.

  8. I’d love to think that Trumpler’s tariffs against Canada are just part of his blustering smoke-&-mirrors distraction from the real evil he’s doing within the US govt. But if those tariffs go into force (Tuesday) the impact on Canada, a solid American ally and friend, will be crippling. This is an unconscionable betrayal of the trade treaty negotiated by Trump himself and shows the world what his word is worth: nothing. Relationships with America’s allies will never recover from this. No one forgets nor forgives a stab in the back.

  9. PS. Re the smoke-&-mirrors distraction I mentioned above: Trump justifies his various bullying of Canada by mentioning the old bogeymen: illegal aliens & Fentanyl. Note that illegal entries of people and Fentanyl from Canada amount to 1% each.
