We keep hearing all the MAGA hype about Trump’s plurality of 49.5% being a “landslide” and a “mandate” and “historic.” That’s pure gaslighting. Yes, he won all the swing states and he won the election. Tragic but true. But the facts do not show a landslide, they show a less than 1.5% plurality. But a new fact raised its head yesterday and this reallly upset Donald. The Inauguration ratings came in and guess what? He tanked. Variety blared “Trump Inauguration Ratings Down From 2021, 2017:Â
An average of 24.6 million viewers watched Donald Trump‘s inauguration as the 47th president of the United States on Monday per Nielsen.
That’s a lower total than what was achieved by both of the two most recent inauguration broadcasts: 27% below the 33.8 million viewers who tuned into Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration in 2021, and 21% below the 31 million who watched Trump’s first inauguration in 2017.
Monday’s total was counted from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET across 15 different networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, Merit Street Media, Telemundo, Univision, CNBC, CNN, CNNe, FOX News Channel, FOX Business Network, MSNBC, Newsmax, NewsNation and PBS. It should be noted that Nielsen’s 2021 and 2017 totals don’t account for the exact same set of networks: Biden’s 33.8 million viewers also tuned in via Estrella, BET, BET Her, HLN, Scripps News (then known as Newsy) and WGNA without contributions from Merit Street Media, Fox Business Network, NewsNation or PBS; Trump’s 31 million viewers in 2017 included some from Galavision and HLN but not Merit Street Media, CNNe, Newsmax, NewsNation or PBS.
And of course there was also the fact of the Ohio State v. Notre Game title game. J.D. Vance “joked” about staying away from the Inauguration and attending the game and truth be known, Vance probably would have done that if he could have. But instead, he grabbed a saber and helped Donald Trump cut the Inauguration cake with his saber, and then Trump danced to YMCA with a dangerous weapon in his hand, while Melania swayed to the side, in her version of “dancing.” This is the Republican version of an ass swinging party, friends.
In any event, what with the ballgame and the bad weather and the fact that half the country hates Trump’s guts with a passion and a sizeable portion of the country is totally apathetic and has given up on politics (it’s well known, sadly, that non voters comprise a large segment of the electorate) Trumpty struck out.
He’s going to keep his mouth shut about the Inauguration ratings because not only are they below the last two elections, they’re way below Obama’s ratings.
The low ratings are one big reason, most likely, why the unstable lunatic decided to ignore advice about not pardoning the violent J6ers and instead said, “Fuck it. Release ’em all,” according to Axios.
We all have our inner child running around but most of us have an adult to go with it. Not Trump. The inner child and the outer *man* are one and the same.
I continue to worry about the thugs he pardoned becoming his personal mercenaries the next time we have to pry his fat ass out of the White House.
They are deranged and know he has their backs, as long as he remains in power.
Well, if it’s any comfort, the pardons only apply to the specific crimes for which they were convicted (or in the process of being tried). If any of them commit future crimes, their “pardons” won’t help them a bit. If I’m not mistaken, the pardoned crimes can still be used when it comes time to determine the sentence for a future conviction. It’s similar to a murderer: When he’s been tried and convicted of the crime, but he gets pardoned, the pardon applies ONLY to that particular conviction. If he’s later tried for another murder, the pardon doesn’t come into play (except to make the President who issued the original pardon look like a complete and total tool).
Technically that’s true…but Michael’s point is valid…the message is he, and they by his umbrella of power, are above the law. They’ve heard him loud and clear. Next time it won’t be one dead lady in Charlottesville. They’ll bring the guns and will use them. Maybe some of you are too young to remember Kent State, and even more egregious, the unarmed members of the communist workers party shot dead in broad daylight in the streets of Greensboro in 1979. Several were MDs that worked at Duke. The police knew they were unarmed and told the KKK/Nazis that fact. Comfort blinds people. This nation has sat on its collective ass, enjoying the democracy paid for by blood sacrifice, while completely forgetting its not a goddamn birthright. So we have pissed it away. It’s gone. If it’s not clear just four days in, then I guess eventually the horror will wake some, but there aren’t enough warriors among us to fight back. The democrats are just high paid beauracrats. We didn’t defeat the nazis or Japan with beauracrats. The law created where we are, and now HE IS THE LAW.
