There Was A Bombing At Mar-a-Lago Too, On New Year’s Eve

The dream dies hard for some people. We all have our dreams. When we’re kids we want to be everything from cowboys to international spies, to movie stars. It’s good for kids to cosplay, it develops the imagination and gives children a sense of purpose and empowerment. These are good things to use in developing an identity. Most people grow up and realize that they’re not going to bring down global villains or show up at the Oscars. But Lara Trump still maintains her fantasy of being a singer. Nothing can shake her of this. Trump went so far as to accuse social media of shadow banning her song because she simply could not believe it wasn’t a massive hit. I don’t know about shadow banning but I know a turned down mic when I hear it. Listen to the band drown out Lara the Chanteuse.

Here the sound’s a little *better* or worse, depending on whether better means you can hear this atrocity. Lara has no voice. The notes are flat and she’s got no breath under them. Linda Ronstadt once described her singing as “moving columns of air around with my voice.” A real singer can use the human voice as an instrument and do just that, vibrate the air in tune with musical notes. Lara is making noise but nobody can tell her that. In a non-MAGA environment, this would be characterized as bombing on stage. What do MAGAs call it? Art? Eric’s wife living her masturbation fantasy of being a rock star in public?

And what is tasteless about this, is that the Tom Petty estate told the Trumps to cease and desist from using this song. So why is it still going on? I guess because it’s a private party, technically, and not being used for commercial purposes. But in point of fact, nothing about Trump is private. He lives in a club, surrounded by members and commercializes everything he touches. So does his wife. So I don’t think you would need to be Clarence Darrow to put together an argument that this is a breach of the covenant to cease and desist.

But probably Tom Petty’s estate won’t pursue it. They’ll just chalk it up to more tastelessness and exploitation on the part of the Trump family and they won’t be wrong.

And clearly Lara is thumbing her nose at the cease and desist letter. That is an insult to the man whose music she’s decided to appropriate. But again, the Trumps thinking everything is there, it’s all for the taking.
