There’s a definite pattern that flamboyant MAGAs follow: First, they need to get known, so they proselytize the dogma of the MAGA cult, meaning pro-guns, anti-abortion, faux Xianity, and obeyances to the Mango Messiah. That’s step one. Step two is their big mouths (and being photogenic, you need both) get them notice and television appearances and the attention begins to act as an opiate. So they need more and more of it, so they act crazier and crazier in order to get it. Then comes step three, where they get so freaking strange that even members of their own MAGA camp can’t stand them any longer. And that is the end of the beginning and the beginning of the end. That’s where Nancy Mace finds herself.

Who’s next? Stew Peters aka Stew Pidd? Or maybe Steve Bannon will turn on Mace? That depends. Chiefly it depends upon filling air time and God knows Mace is useful for that. She’s always got topics ranging from space aliens manning the New Jersey drones to who’s using what bathroom this week. You can’t make this stuff up — but Mace can. Mace is a bottomless pit of falsity and disinformation.

Mace reminds me of that Nicole Kidman movie, where she played a TV broadcaster who said, “You’re nobody in America unless you’re on television.” Network news anchor used to be the uber hip, slick and cool job for somebody to have. Those days are gone. If you can be a member of Congress and a talking head on TV, that’s making it in the third decade of the 21st century.
Now Mace is openly alienating TV commentators, other members of Congress, social media influencers (and their wives) and political strategists. Those are quite a few groups. I wonder who she thinks will be left in her corner when all the dust settles?
