I lived in France for a semester in college and so I have some feeling for the sensibilities of the French. My prediction is that they will be howling over this. Charles Kushner, you have undoubtedly heard by now, has been appointed as the next ambassador to France, by his son’s father in law, who pardoned Kushner when he was president before. This is going to be written up salaciously. This is the kind of weirdo mix of sex, crime, and politics that will titillate the French sensibility — or the sensibilities of anybody normal. This will mark the first time a convicted felon has been the French ambassador from the United States. Or any country.
Kushner was convicted of tax evasion and he pled guilty to the things he was accused of. That’s what makes it a trifle bizarre that Jared Kushner hates Chris Christie, who was the prosecutor who put Charles Kushner away, but there you have it. Walk down memory lane with Christie now.

Witness tampering is the kind of crime that is particularly immoral and the French will pick up on that. Stealing money is a normal criminal endeavor. Most criminal endeavors are about stealing money. But it takes a personality which is more complexly criminal, shall we say, to go the full nine yards and not only plan and commit the crime but then decide to mess with witnesses, juries, all that.
The French will be howling at what America has become. And they won’t be alone. The fact that Trump is sending his ex-convict in-law, a convicted felon, a convicted crook, as the French ambassador, will have people smirking right and left all up and down the continent.
We will never recover our stature on the world stage. Or, because I hate to say “never” let’s just say it’s going to take a very long time and a lot of changes and those won’t happen overnight.
And are you ready for some comedy? Charles Kushner initially supported Nikki Haley for president in 2024. But then he donated to Trump, naturally, as did they all.

I think Trump will have “acting” this and that posts, which he did the first time. Senate confirmation is going to be difficult for a lot of these people.

The world laughed when we elected Trump the first time. Not laughter tinged with sympathy, laughter loaded with disbelief. Now that we’ve elected the convicted ciminal scumbag again, there’s no laughter, just reluctant acceptance that the USA is a failed state, despite its current economic health and massive military. I too have dwelt amongst the French and I can assure you that they’ll all be echoing a wise and wordly winemaker who told me in 2016: “Ah the Americans, so sad that they’ve never achieved civilization.”
