There is no low they won’t go. Remember that and one of Orwell’s famous lines, “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.” We live in a day and age of terrific technology and a lot of access to social media and public airwaves and spaces. That’s a dual-edged sword. On the one hand, that environment can allow a lot of voices to be in the public sphere who might not otherwise have a voice. That’s the upside. On the downside, the forces of evil (defined for our purposes here as “disinformation”) have never had richer soil in which to flourish. What you’re about to look at is something that doesn’t exist — I think. And therein lies the rub. Nobody is fact checking any of this. If somebody says it’s real, then real it becomes.

What clues me in that this is fake is that the birth certificate allegedly says the gender of the child is “unknown.” I doubt that that’s real. The medical profession has a duty to keep records and I don’t believe a parent can override that duty. If anybody here knows the laws on such a thing, please share with us here. So far as I know the hospitals are required by law to give a child’s name, parents’ names, weight at birth, gender, race, address, simple basics.
The other thing that clues me in that this is fake is that it presupposes that transgender reality is somehow a matter of brainwashing. That’s not true in my limited experience with transgender people, and I’ve only known two in my life. In both those instances, at least, the parents had absolutely nothing to do with a person’s belief about themselves that they were actually a man in a woman’s body or vice versa. This was something that the individuals in question arrived at completely independently.
There are some famous transgender cases in history. This is the most touching transgender account I’ve ever read, of a Civil War soldier named Al Cashier, who was a transgender male and a courageous soldier. I think Al’s saga would make one hell of a movie. There is no way, I’m sure you’ll agree, that Al received any kind of *prompting* from anybody to *pretend* to be a man, in the mid-1800’s. Not saying it’s impossible, only saying that I think the odds are greatly against it. Nobody could do what Al did, join the military as a man and manage to keep that a secret, without totally believing that was their reality and living that reality.
Transgender people have always been with us just as gay and lesbian people always have been. It’s nothing short of tragic that they are now being used as a political tool and cudgel when there are so few of them and they’re utterly harmless as a class of people. But the politics of today demand that there be an Other to demonize and so these folks get their time in the barrel.
Transgenders are being used as a group to fear and hate. The “Other” group changes historically. It can be any race, ethnicity, religion, sect or interest group that you can imagine. In this decade of the 21st century is is the transgenders. In the 2030s it may be somebody or something entirely different. We won’t know until we get there.
If anybody finds out that this clip is legitimate, please let me know. If you go into the Twitter thread and read the bios of both the poster of the video and the person who responded, they sound like they could be MAGA disinformation fabricators. Maybe they’re not. Maybe they’re wonderful Americans who are doing us all a public service.
I will believe that when I have reason to. Right now, this is how this clip strikes me and why I believe it was posted.
And make no mistake, Twitter is a right-wing cesspool these days. I don’t know how much longer I will be there other than to share that this is the kind of thing that is being disseminated over there. And I do that for the purpose of showing you what we’re up against. We would not, I repeat not, have been blindsided in 2016 had we been monitoring right-wing media religiously. I found that out after the fact and vowed never to remain in the dark again.
This clip dovetails exactly with Nancy Mace’s crusade against the “woman eradicating Left.” There is no such thing but it gets Nancy on TV a lot and that is all she wants and needs, according to her staff. That and $174,000 per year which she does nothing to earn, other than being a right-wing shill and a social media influencer.
The misunderstanding about gays, Blacks, whatever the group is, has been that the Left advocates that these groups should be accepted as equal and that isn’t how it’s heard by the Right. The Right hears “equal” as “they take over.” Nobody’s trying to take over everything, the idea is merely to get along. But I became aware of that as a kid, that if you say Blacks or women or gays or whomever are equal then that means that “They” are going to be running the show next. There’s a fear of displacement and disempowerment that fuels hatred of the Other. It has always been so.
And in 2024 the reality is that the transgenders are the most hated Other.

The birth certificate statement sounds suspiciously phony. Twit is indeed a cesspool. I was thrown off when muskrat first bought it, but can get on once in a while. I read part of a thread and need brain bleach. Everyone is fleeing elsewhere, many to BlueSky. It is quiet and friendly and magats are outed, their nastiness reported, they are blocked, and then their accounts are closed by the moderators. They do come back as new user names. They are lonely at twit because they only have each other to hate on. And since they all agree, where is the fun? Over at the nice places. They want to ruin everything. For everyone. Pathetic little people.
Well said, all around by both Ursula and commenters. I saw a clip of Wanda Sykes on Jimmy Kimmel, and she said why are they picking on trans people? They are less than 1% of the population. Aren’t presidents supposed to address problems that a lot of are dealing with? What about climate change? My answer is that it is much easier to victimize people who can’t fight back, like immigrants and the poor.
In 2005, while working as the anti-discrimination administrator at one of the campuse of a large state university system, I received a complaint from a woman for the way she was being treated because of what students and teachers assumed about her gender. She was the first, perhaps only, intersex person I had ever met. While I was working to improve her experience on campus, she was very open with me about her history and I am forever grateful. When I met her, she was 50, which meant that when she was born there was no question that doctors put tremendous pressure on her parents to choose what sex the baby will be so surgeons could perform the removal of one set of genitals!! OMG! To think that such a thing should be considered the appropriate care! This woman’s parents were extremely brave to reject such a choice and say that their child will decide how their gender will be presented! (I do not know what was put on her birth certificate, but I imagine the doctors put whatever they decided.) She decided to present as a woman and to leave her genitals alone. She also opted out of any hormonal treatments which was one of the reasons she needed my help. She wore dresses and had facial and leg hair…so many people believed that gave them some sort of right to treat her as a freak of nature. Holy Crap, the number of lectures I have given to groups of students and employees about what the anti-discrimination policies and laws mean. I told them it was the easiest policy/law to follow! “It’s the LEAVE. EACH. OTHER. THE. HELL. ALONE. policy!” Wouldn’t life be better if we all just followed it?! 🥳🫶🌞

There was a famous case where John Money of Johns Hopkins convinced parents of a boy who lost part of his penis during circumcision to.raise the child as a girl. The boy never accepted being a girl. He suffered from depression, and eventually committed suicide. That case was the first time it became very clear that gender was in the brain rather than determined by genitalia.
So sad! A medical “slip up” caused untold sorrow and a suicide!
